Bob Simmons

Robert “Bob” Simmons, 93, of Carthage, Missouri passed away on September 30, 2015. 

He was born February 28, 1922, to Ben F. Simmons and Hattie Lois Sheppard in Joplin, Missouri. He served in the United States Army Air Corps as a Technical Sergeant. He was a school teacher and a master welder and taught English, Social Studies, and Industrial Arts for many years in Missouri and California. He was an ordained minister since 1956 with the Restoration Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints. Robert enjoyed vegetable gardening and volunteered at the Can Do Senior Center in Carthage, Missouri. Our loss is Heaven’s gain. Bob was one of the most gentle, sincere, and humble man that anyone could ever have the privilege of knowing. He worked hard his whole life, loved his family, loved to fish, loved good food, as long as it was not a vegetable, and loved the Lord with all his heart. Bob will be missed by so many. 

Bob was united in marriage to Evelyn in 1943 in Mexico City, Mexico. She preceded him in death on September 25, 1994. He was united in marriage to Marie Lindley on December 20, 2003 in Carthage, Missouri. She preceded him in death on May 16, 2014. He is survived by five sons, Gregory L. Simmons, Kevin L. Simmons, Robert L. Simmons Jr., Timothy L. Simmons, and Denton L. Simmons, 1 daughter Tamara L. Strickley, one brother Eldon Simmons, 9 grandsons, 5 granddaughters, 12 great grandsons, and 1 great granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers B.T. Simmons and Delbert Simmons, 3 sisters Francis, Opal, and Edna, and one son Gordon L. Simmons. 

Services will be held Saturday, October 3, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the Restoration Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Carthage, Missouri. An Open Visitation will be held Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Ulmer Funeral Home in Carthage, Missouri. Burial will take place at Burkhart Cemetery in Racine, Missouri. Contributions can be made to the Can Do Senior Center in care of Ulmer Funeral Home. Online condolences can be made at www.ulmerfh.com.
