Leota Nixon

Leota Maye McNary Nixon, 92, passed away Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at her home in Carthage. Leota was born May 6, 1924 in Pittsburg, Kansas to David McNary and Bertha (Tiller) McNary. Leota was a longtime Carthage resident and worked in admissions at McCune-Brooks Hospital. Leota was a former member of the Eastern Star and Rebecka Lodge.

Leota was united in marriage to Rolla “Henry” Nixon September 25, 1944 in Parsons, Kansas; he preceded her in death July 9, 2009.

Leota is survived by one son Gary Nixon and wife Karen of Joplin, three daughters: Judy Schlichting of Carthage, Connie Watts and husband David of Carthage and Nancy Randall and husband George of Republic, one sister Dorothy Kahl and husband Bill of Carthage, two brothers: Dean McNary and wife Jodie of Jasper and Emery McNary and wife Velma of Carthage, two sisters-in-law: Bula Thomas of Webb City and Dorothy Nixon of Donovan, Missouri, along with numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Leota is preceded in death by her parents and husband, two sisters: Christina McNary and Harriett Patrick, two brothers: Arlo McNary and Everett McNary.

Services will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, March 31, 2017 at Ulmer Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, March 30, 2017 at Ulmer Funeral Home. Burial will be at Hackney Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Ulmer Funeral Home.
