Garry Willoughby

Reverend Garry Martin Willoughby, 69, of Monett, MO, passed from this life to his eternal home in Heaven on Saturday evening, January 19, 2019, while at Cox South Hospital in Springfield, MO.

Garry was born on January 17, 1950 in Wentworth, MO, son of the late Harley Benton Willoughby and Mary Eathel (Loving) Willoughby. Garry attended school in Pierce City and graduated with the class of 1968. He then furthered his education by attending Southwest Baptist University.

Garry began his many years of ministry in Sarcoxie, pastoring at Morningside Baptist Church. In 1974, he and his family moved to Oklahoma, where he was Pastor of Lenapah Baptist Church. 

After moving back to southwest Missouri, Garry pastored in Chesapeake, South Greenfield, Carr Lane Baptist Church and Calvary Baptist Church in Exeter before being called to Temple Baptist Church in Monett. Garry also owned and operated Willoughby Roof Truss, which has been in operation for over forty years. Garry enjoyed many fishing trips, keeping connections made with his extended family and spending time with his children and grandchildren.




On March 17, 1973 in Springfield, MO, Garry Willoughby and Martha Clotfelter were united in marriage. To this union, three children were born. In addition to his wife of forty-five years, Garry is survived by one son, Chris Willoughby and wife Debbi, of Monett; two daughters, Autumn D. Caraway and husband Jason, of Shiloh, IL and Joy Willoughby, of Monett; six grandchildren, Jackson Willoughby, Jewelia Willoughby, Hannah Caraway, Liam Caraway, Heather Moennig and Brittany Young; three great-grandchildren, Payton, Carson and Mackinley Moennig; two brothers, Earl Willoughby and Jack Willoughby and wife Vicki; three sisters, Hettie Kyger, Oneita Pyle and husband Bill and Wilma Kinder; as well as a host of extended family and friends.

Garry was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Tom and Bert Willoughby; and two sisters, Lee Carter and Mary Fritz.

Memorial services for Reverend Willoughby will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at the First Baptist Church of Purdy with Reverend Bill Banks officiating. A private burial will be held at a later date in Oakdale Cemetery in Monett. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to The Willoughby Family in care of Martha Willoughby.
