Mrs. Vera Viola Simmons, 57, of Joplin, Missouri, passed away Monday, January 21, 2019, at Mercy Hospital.
Vera was born September 22, 1961, in Parsons, Kansas, to John and Marilyn (Foster) Melton. She made her career as a homemaker; raising and caring for her own children, as well as many others over the years. Vera was someone that was easy to talk to; she had a loving, non-judgmental way about her. Her spirit was thoughtful and compassionate. She lived to serve others, especially the less fortunate. She will be remembered as a woman who always wanted the best for everyone, especially her children.
Upon her heavenly homecoming, Vera will join her parents; her husband, Tony; her aunt, Tava Lee “Bob” Jones, and her beloved son, Diamond Bradley, who passed August 29, 2018.
Vera physically leaves on this earth her daughters, Amanda Gray and husband, Michael, Arlene Wesley and husband, Treeman, Marilyn Bradley and Hannah Woessner; fourteen grandchildren, Gabriel Gray, Elijah Weathers, Orion Scarboroug, Tiana Wesley, Treeman Wesley, Jr., Treena Cornsilk, Aliza Bradley, Makayla Gilstrap, Dominic Bradley, Daunte Bradley, Davion Bradley, Julian Brown and Hayden Brown; her brothers, Jim Melton, John Melton, Andy Melton and Jason Melton; her cousin and close friend, Charlie Melton; as well as a host of extended family and friends.
Funeral services for Vera are 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 25, 2019, in the chapel of Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary. The family will receive friends for visitation from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary. A private burial will take place on Monday, January 28, at Lakeview Cemetery in Erie, Kansas. Honorary pallbearers are Treeman Wesley, Sr., Michael Gray, Charlie Melton, Jason Melton, Brad Ship and Richard Melton.
Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri.
