Roy Murphy

Roy Wayne Murphy, 59, departed this life after a long, courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease and other health issues at Seneca House, Seneca, Missouri on January 12, 2019.

Roy was born on March 15, 1959 in Neosho, Missouri to Roy and Eudene Murphy.

Roy graduated from Neosho High School in 1977 where he was active in Air Force Junior ROTC and served as corps commander. He also served in the United States Air Force. He later worked on drilling rigs in the oil fields in Oklahoma and Texas. He returned to Neosho where he worked at La-Z-Boy Midwest for 28 years until disabilities related to Parkinson’s ended his working career. He married Lee Ann Sontheimer in Neosho on July 7, 1994.


Roy is survived by his wife Lee Ann and their three children: Emily, Megan and Patrick Murphy, of Neosho. He is also survived by his mother and siblings: Eudene Murphy and Richard Murphy of Delaware, Oklahoma, Randy Murphy of Anderson, Missouri, and Nancy Taylor of Sidney, Montana. His uncles, Ray Murphy and Jerry Rigdon of Neosho and his mother-in-law, Carol Sontheimer of Neosho also survive, along with numerous nieces and nephews and many friends.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Tricia Murphy, his father, Roy E. Murphy, and his grandparents.

Roy was a member at St. Canera Catholic Church in Neosho. He enjoyed playing guitar, reading, hunting, and fishing.

The Rite of Christian Burial will be 2:00 pm, Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at Clark Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, Neosho; Reverend Sampson Dorival will officiate. Rosary will be at Clark Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 15 at 5:30 pm, with visitation to follow until 7 pm.
