Kenny Buckner

Mr. Kenneth Ray “Kenny” Buckner, 66, of Anderson, Missouri, departed this life on Wednesday, January 16, 2019, at Freeman Hospital West in Joplin, Missouri, after a recent battle with pneumonia.

Kenny entered this life on March 15, 1952, in Stella, Missouri, son of the late Simon and Beatrice (Adams) Buckner. He was raised near Powell, Missouri and was a 1970, graduate of McDonald County High School. On October 6, 1989, he was united in marriage to Shirley Jean Smith and to this union one daughter was born. Kenny worked as a draftsman and carpenter throughout his life. Before owning Kenny’s Home Improvements, he worked for Cooper Communities, Taylor Homes, Sherwood Forest Homes and Buckner Brothers Construction. He also ran a paper route for the Joplin Globe. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking and family gatherings. Kenny was a member of the Anderson United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Alvin, Harold and Jerry Buckner.

Kenny is survived by his wife of twenty-nine years, Jean Buckner of the home; a daughter, Kya Thomas and husband, Dylan, of Anderson; a grandson, Kase Thomas whom will be arriving in March; a brother, Bob Buckner and wife, Rena, of Pineville; a brother in-law, Lee Smith and wife, Renee, of Anderson; a niece and nephew Kyle Smith and fiancé, Ashton Pratt and Courtni Smith; as well as several other nieces and nephews and countless friends.




Funeral services for Kenny will be held on Monday, January 21, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. in the Anderson Chapel of the Ozark Funeral Homes with Pastor Nick Van Dam officiating. Burial will follow in the Anderson Cemetery. Those honoring his life by serving as pallbearers are Lee Smith, Kyle Smith, Dylan Thomas, Hal Sims, Kevin Blecha and Mike Blecha. Honorary pallbearers are Bob Buckner, Kedron Blecha, Drey Fickle, Bill Dalton and the United Methodist Men. The family will receive friends on Sunday afternoon from 1-3:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. A memorial has been established and contributions may be left at the funeral home.
