Kenneth Sturgeon

Kenneth Carl Sturgeon, of Stella, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin, Missouri at the age of 95 years, 5 months and 23 days.

He was born July 23, 1923 at Granby, Missouri the son of Charles Harve and Inez Marie (Camerer) Sturgeon. On February 24, 1967 in Wheaton, Missouri he was united in marriage to Willadean (McQueen) Cooper, who preceded him in death on February 4, 2018, after spending over fifty years of their life together. Also preceding him in death were his parents; one son, Carl Sturgeon; a daughter-in-law, Ruth Cooper and one brother Corky Sturgeon.

Survivors include his children, Bill Cooper of Wheaton, Missouri, Joy Tichenor and her husband Ed of Abilene, Texas, Beverly Hill of Arma, Kansas; a daughter-in-law, Janet Sturgeon of Fairview, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Zeb Sturgeon and his wife Brynae of Natoma, Kansas, Kenneth Sturgeon of Stella, Missouri, Alicia Robbins and her husband Patrick of Neosho, Missouri, Kayleen Rosales and her husband Juan of Abilene, Texas, Stacey Tichenor and her husband Mike of Wheaton, Missouri, Elizabeth Gomez of Cassville, Missouri and Mary Shipman and her husband Chris of Sedalia, Missouri; sixteen great grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; two nieces; other relatives and many friends.

Kenneth grew up and attended school in Newton County, Missouri. In February, 1943 he entered the United States Army and served in Germany as Sergeant until March, 1946. At a young age he was saved and was a charter member of Wheaton Southern Baptist Church. He and Willadean were dedicated to family, church and traveling.

For fifty years Kenneth served as a Board Member of the Barry County Co-op. He was a farmer his whole life, and took great pride in his cattle and grain.

Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, January 22, 2019 at McQueen Funeral Home in Wheaton. Pastor Paul Wahlert will conduct the services. Burial will be at Muncie Chapel Cemetery in Wheaton.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Monday at McQueen Funeral Home in Wheaton.

Contributions may be made to Wheaton Southern Baptist Church in memory of Kenneth.
