Lyllis Brown

Lyllis Ann Brown, age 57, passed away Saturday, January 19, 2019 in Joplin, MO. Lyllis was born on August 3, 1961 in Wayne County, Michigan to Roscoe William “Bill” Brown and Audrey LaRue Watson Brown.

Lyllis attended primary school in Garden City, Michigan until the family moved to Stockton, MO in 1972. She graduated Stockton High School in 1979. After high school, Lyllis attended cosmetology school in Springfield, MO. Lyllis worked at both the Good Shepherd Community Care & Rehab in Lockwood and the Missouri Rehabilitation Center in Mt. Vernon until she suffered a career ending injury.

Genealogy research and reading cemeteries were Lyllis’s passion and delight. She spent many hours with her mother, Audrey, doing research, documenting ancestry information, creating family sheets and publishing cemetery books. The combined efforts of Lyllis & her mother left a wealth of information for their extended family and future generations.

Lyllis married Larry Gene Thompson on January 29, 1988. To this union one child was born, Audrey Sue.




Lyllis is survived by her daughter, Audrey Sue Martinez (Joseph) and granddaughter Taygen Lynn Martinez of Joplin, MO as well as brothers William “Michael” Brown (Honoria) and Mitchell “Kirk” Brown both of Greenfield, MO and her sister, Susan Marie Brown of Wichita, Kansas. She leaves behind 2 nieces, 1 nephew, 2 great nieces, 1 great nephew, lifelong friend Larry Thompson as well as numerous loving relatives & friends.

Lyllis was preceded in death by her parents, Bill & Audrey; maternal grandparents Loda Morgan and Anna Mae Beach Watson and paternal grandparents Roscoe William Sr and Gladys Emma Smith Brown.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 23, 2019, in Greenfield Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Wetzel Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the funeral chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to her granddaughter, Taygen Lynn Martinez, who was the light of her life. Please make checks payable to Audrey Martinez.
