Gary Kenney

Gary Kenny, 68, Joplin, died January 15, 2019 after battling pancreatic cancer for 2 years. Gary was born January 27, 1950 in St. John NB, Canada; He was preceded in death by his parents Murray and Doreen Kenny.

He is survived by Deborah (Deb) Kenny his wife of 40 years sons David and Rebecca Kenny, Traverse City, MI, Greg and Lacy Kenny of Mount Vernon, MO, sister, Dale Kenny, Manchester, NH. and his greatest joy, his grandson Hayden Kenny, Traverse City, MI.

Celebration of Life service will be held Monday January 21st at 6:30pm, Joplin Family Worship Center, Joplin. M0. Donations can be made to the Gary Kenny Memorial Fund.

Gary was a long time member of Abundant Life Christian Center. He graduated from Keene State College, Keene, New Hampshire. Began his career in broadcasting at the Melody Shop, Keene, NH installing antennas and tvs.




As a teen he bootlegged an FM Radio Station; helped to build the Keene State College FM Station; moved on to DJ in Brattleboro, VT before moving to television at WGBY (PBS) as a Transmitter Engineer. His next move was to Townsend Associates, Westfield, MA where he was Director of Field Service.

He then relocated to the Joplin area. Gary and Debbie started the first locally owned TV Stations in SW Missouri March 1988 airing Trinity Broadcasting Network, PAX TV, ION TV, and Retro TV.

The central theme of Gary's life was bringing people into a personal relationship with Jesus. Highlights in his life was running sound for Bobby Goldsboro, snake hunting, 3 months in Nigeria, Africa working on TV Stations, working on transmitters on top of the World Trade Center, running cable in the 1982 World Series, covering area High School Football, KU basketball, Major league baseball, and Christian concerts, events, and political debates.

He was active in all the area ministerial alliances, chambers of commerce and the Ham Radio Club.
