Mike Viets

Michael E. “Mike” Viets, 67, of Girard, passed away, surrounded by his loving family, at 12:28 P.M., Sunday, December 13, 2020 at his residence in Girard.

Mike was born May 25, 1953 in Girard, a son of Elwyn and Elda (Meyer) Viets. Mike attended grade school in Brazilton and graduated from Girard High School in 1971. 

While in high school, Mike enjoyed Future Farmers of America and he enjoyed watching the National FFA Convention.

He attended Fort Scott Community College and Pittsburg State University.








He married Kristi Ramey in 1973 and they divorced. He married Lora Keller on June 15, 1991 at Farlington Lake. Lora survives of the home and was devoted to his loving care.

Mike was a farmer with his brothers in rural Brazilton and he worked for Beachner Construction Company of St. Paul until 1989 when he committed all his time to Viets Brothers Farms.

He enjoyed his family and his grandchildren; muscle cars, especially his ’65 Chevelle, driving a tractor, water skiing, Coca-Cola, and country cruising with Lora.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, Lora, of the home, are his son, Chris Keller (Erin) of Driftwood, Texas; his daughters, Allison Stewart (Jason Miller) of Hutchinson, Becca Diskin (Brent) of Carl Junction, Missouri, Ashley Keller of Kansas City, Missouri, Joni Martino (Travis) of Murphy, Texas, Katie Viets (Zack Foraker) of Girard; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandson; his mother, of Brazilton; his brothers Tim “Opie” Viets (Rhonda) of Brazilton, Mark Viets (Kim) of Brazilton; his sister, Terry Viets, of Brazilton; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Mike was preceded in death by his father.

Due to Covid concerns, there will be no visitation Thursday evening.

Private funeral services will be Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Girard with Pastor Mark Wenzelburger officiating. Friends are asked to meet at the church at 11:30 for the procession to Zion/Trinity Lutheran Cemetery at Brazilton for committal services.

Friends may call after 2:00 p.m., Wednesday at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Girard.
Memorials are suggested to Girard High School FFA or the American Heart Association and these may be left at the funeral home, 518 W St. John, Box 258, Girard, 66743.
