(From Parker Mortuary)Father Gary Grant Kennedy went to be with his heavenly father on August 30, 2021 with his loving wife Carol by his side. He was born to Max Kennedy and Katherine (Petty) Kennedy on February 22, 1940 in Joplin, Missouri.
He was united in marriage to Carol Rae (Means) Kennedy on August 6, 1960 in Galena, Kansas. They had three children, David Kennedy, of Galena, Kansas, Cheryl Kennedy, of Bayfield, Colorado, and Russell Kennedy, of South Boston, Massachusetts.
He graduated from Galena High School class of 1958 and then went on to attend Pittsburg State University graduating with a Bachelors degree in Automotive Technology and a Masters degree in Technical Education. He was also a graduate of DeVry Technical Institute where he studied industrial electronics.
He was a teacher for many years in Des Moines, Iowa at a technical high school. Leaving Iowa, he moved to his beloved mountains in Durango Colorado where he loved hiking in the mountains and camping. There he worked as Director of Mechanical Services at Tamarron Resort in Durango. When he returned home, he spent many years teaching at Crowder College at Webb City and Neosho.
While still teaching at Crowder he felt a deeper calling to the priesthood and began his studies to become an Episcopal priest. After completing his studies, he served as a priest at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Galena, Kansas as well as the one in Columbus, Kansas.
He is survived by his wife, Carol; sons, David and Russell; daughter, Cheryl; granddaughter, Veronica Warren; his uncle, Jack Kennedy; four great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Philip Kennedy.
He has been taken for cremation at Parker Mortuary in Joplin, Missouri. Due to the pandemic memorial services will be held at a later date.
