(From Mason-Woodard Mortuary)Delphine Ona Gilpin of Joplin, MO, age 88, passed away on September 23, 2021 after living an exceedingly full life. Delphine was born in Lawton, KS on May 5, 1933 to Harrison and Mildred (Moore) Brown. She was a lifetime resident of the Joplin area.
Delphine married the love of her life, Barney T. Gilpin in 1954, and together they created a wonderful life. They owned and operated Gilpin Motor Company of Joplin for more than 45 years. They were members of the National Automobile Dealers’ Association, along with the Elks Club. Delphine was proud to be a Lady Elk.
You could find them together at the lake, boating and fishing were hobbies they both loved. She also loved to travel, socialize, dance and enjoyed making new friends. Delphine will be remembered by her many friends as being vibrant, strong willed, fashionable, and full of life. She will also be remembered for the pristine yard she kept; she always had the prettiest yard around.
Delphine was preceded in death by her husband, Barney T. Gilpin; both parents; siblings, Roy Brown, Delsie Owens, Daisy Green, Daphne Comeau, Ray Brown and Harrison Brown.
She is survived by daughter, B. Michelle Daly of Normal, IL; son Michael Gilpin and wife Suzanne of Joplin; grandchildren, Alexandra Daly of Chamblee, GA; Abigail Daly of Roswell, GA; Graham Gilpin of Bentonville, Arkansas, great granddaughter, Madison Gilpin.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, September 28 at Osborne Memorial Cemetery in Joplin at 2:00 pm.
Arrangements are under the care of Mason-Woodard Mortuary in Joplin.
