(From Parker Mortuary)Charles “Buzzy” G. Nagel, age 82, of Carthage, passed away on Friday, September 24, 2021 at his home.
Buzzy was born on September 21, 1939 in Salamanca, NY. He grew up and attended school in New York graduating from Salamanca High School in 1958. He then enlisted in the United States Army where he honorably served in Hawaii, Thailand, and Vietnam. He was a decorated veteran having been awarded medals during the Vietnam War and Cold War.
During his time in the military, he met Betty Givens, of Austin, Tx, formerly of Granby, and the two were united in marriage on June 25, 1966 at the St. Patrick’s RC Church in Salamanca, NY. In 1970 they moved to Rockville, MD where he worked as Grouting Superintendent of Technical Water Proofing Services until they moved to Avilla, MO in 1972. He then went to work for H. E. Williams, Inc. in Carthage as a punch press operator and was lead man in machine maintenance. He was owner/operator of Nagel’s Firewood in Avilla for several years.
After he retired he worked for Ag Forte Turkey Farms as grounds keeper east of Avilla. In 2012 they moved to Carthage and he retired a second time in 2020 at age 81. He was an avid outdoorsman enjoying everything from hunting and fishing to competing in tractor pulls where he won many trophies and ribbons over the years. He was a founding member of the Sheep Shed Church in Neosho.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Nagel, of Carthage; three children, Pat Nagel, Larry Nagel (Cammie), and Jennifer Nagel Snow (Tom); six grandchildren, Zeb Reed, Arad Reed, Hannah Reed, Madison Nagel, Brandon (Bailie) Clemons, Ana Clemons; and five great grandchildren, Knox, Archer, Chad, Hunter, and Hadley.
Memorial Services will be held at a later date.
Cremation arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin.
