(From Clark Funeral Home)Joyce E. Mann was born April 25, 1944 in Omaha, Nebraska, the daughter of Billy M. and Mae M. (Simunek) Vance. She entered into rest on September 14, 2021 in Joplin, following an illness at the age of 77.
Joyce was a lifelong area resident and graduated from Granby High School in 1962. She then attended the Conservatory of Music in Kansas City, Crowder College, Pittsburg State University and graduated from MSSU with a teaching degree.
She began her teaching career at Westview School, teaching 3rd and 4th grade, then taught at Exeter Schools, music, K-12, third grade at Pierce City and then was the vocal director at East Newton Schools until her retirement.
As vocal director, she enjoyed preparing for and attending the competitions. Joyce was active in her community, serving as mayor, serving on the Granby City Council, most recently as alderman and as organizer of the Granby Christmas Parade. She taught ABE classes and enjoyed quilting and fishing. She was a member of Granby First Baptist Church and was a Sunday School teacher and church pianist.
Joyce and Norbert William Mann were married on February 26, 1966 in Kansas City, Kansas and he preceded her in death on November 9, 2008.
She is survived by three children, Michael (Amy) Mann of Joplin, Jeffrey (Annie) Mann of Granby and Marianne (Jon) Stanton of Granby; grandchildren, Christina, Kimberley, Steven, Jonathan and Olivia and great grandchildren, Amelia and Daisy and expecting one to arrive in April, 2022.
In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jessica Mann.
Funeral services will be Thursday, Sept. 30, 2021 at 10:30 am at the Granby First Baptist Church, Pastor Russ Johnson will officiate. Interment will follow in the Granby Memorial Cemetery and those honoring her as pallbearers will be David Vance, Kevin Vance, Mark Vance, Josh Reitz and Travis Gamble. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening at the Clark Funeral Home, Granby from 5:00 -6:30 pm.
