(From Clark Funeral Home)Richard John (Dick) Smith, age 86, passed away on April 8, 2024. He was born to Edward and Lucy (Van Huis) Smith on September 1, 1937, in Chicago, Illinois.
Richard dedicated 35 years of his life to AT&T, showcasing his strong work ethic and commitment. He had a passion for woodworking and was skilled in restoring old wagons.
One of his joys was showcasing Model T's at car shows, reflecting his love for vintage vehicles. He had a keen eye for antiques and enjoyed collecting various items.
Gardening was another one of his cherished hobbies, and he took pride in tending to his flowers and John Deere tractors. Aside from his hobbies, Dick was actively involved in church programs focused on seniors both in California and at Abundant Life in Neosho. He deeply valued his faith and community.
In January of 1989, Dick married Dorris Carolyn Newman, who preceded him in death on September 30, 2019.

Richard is survived by his children, Daniel Smith and wife Sandy of Neosho, Dennis Smith and wife Barbara of Neosho, Daron Smith of Joplin, Mike Freed and wife Joy of Norco, California, Darlene Hurt and husband Jon of Orange, California, Diane Holcomb and husband Fred of Hawaii; his stepdaughters, Sharon Ledgerwood and husband Phil of Webb City, and Pam Hudson-McCulley and husband David of Webb City, Missouri; his grandchildren, Jessica, Andrea, Jennifer, Carter, Alisa, and Justin; his step-grandchildren, Phillip Ledgerwood, Jeremy Ledgerwood, Callie Meyers and husband Ryan, Casey White and husband Aaron, Robert “Tal” Talmadge Hudson and wife Tracy and Georgia Antillon and husband Oscar; his sister, Hilda Burke of La Puente, California along with numerous great-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Marie Reno.
A graveside service will be held at 10 am on Friday, April 12, 2024, at Neosho Memorial Cemetery in Neosho, Missouri, with Ken Robinson and Robert Harrington officiating
