Jim Erickson

James K. Erickson, age 69, of Joplin, Missouri passed away on Wednesday, April 10, 2024 at his home.

Jim was born on March 31, 1955 in Marshalltown, IA. He moved at a young age with his family to Hartford, IA. Jim graduated from Carlisle, IA High School with the Class of 1973. While in high school, he was a member of the football and wrestling teams. 








After high school he honorably served in the United States Army where he was stationed in Germany. He then attended college in Des Moines, IA where he received a degree in Respiratory Therapy. 

After moving to Springfield, MO he attended college at Missouri State University receiving a degree in marketing and management. After moving to Joplin in the late 1980’s while working in area hospitals, he earned his degree as a certified financial planner. He worked as a financial planner for VALIC and other area annuity companies. 

He also started Erickson Tax Service having offices throughout the four-state area. He was still active in helping clients in his office at home. 

Jim loved doing things with his family, especially his two sons, David and Aaron. When they were young, he loved to canoe, sail the sailboat at Stockton Lake, fish, watch wrestling tournaments, football, and baseball games. He also would attend sporting events for his four grandsons Sean, Cord, Michael, and Kashton.

Jim was preceded in death by his father, George Erickson.








Survivors include his mother, Lucille (Osborn) Erickson, of Des Moines, IA; two sons, David James Erickson and Aaron Michael Erickson, both of Joplin, MO; four grandsons, Sean Thomas Erickson, Cord Michael Erickson, Michael Paul Erickson, and Kashton Lee Erickson all of Joplin, MO; his sisters, Linda Eastwood, of White Bear Lake, MN, and Connie Linnane, of Des Moines, IA; his brothers, Ronald Erickson, of Des Moines, IA; three nieces, Katie, Kristina, and Ashley, all of Des Moines, IA; and various cousins. Jim will be greatly missed by family and all who knew him.

A Memorial Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 18, 2024 beginning at 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM at Parker Mortuary in Joplin.

Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin.
