Nancy Hembree

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Nancy E. Hembree, (formerly Totty), age 66, on Friday, April 12, 2024, in Springfield, Mo. Nancy was a beloved best friend, mom, and nana who touched the lives of all who knew her.

Nancy was born on July 15, 1957, to Jack and Jaqueline (Culp) Gunsaullus in Neosho, MO. She graduated from Ft. Scott High School, Class of 1975.







Early in her career she worked as an insurance processor at Western Insurance in Ft Scott, Ks. In 1989, Nancy and her husband moved to Grove and opened Charlie's Chicken, where she took pride in providing delicious meals to her community. Nancy was known for her dedication to her work, ability to manage multiple responsibilities with ease and her outgoing personality that made everyone feel at home.

Later in life, Nancy devoted herself to her true calling as a private caregiver. Her selfless nature and compassionate heart well equipped her to care for those in need.

Nancy's life was filled with many moments of fun and laughter and she was known for her enthusiasm for life. She enjoyed her favorite treat, chocolate, spending time in her yard, and most of all, being with her children and grandkids. 

Her infectious smile and energy brightened the lives of those around her.

Nancy will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Her legacy of kindness and generosity will live on in the hearts of those she touched.

She is preceded in death by father and sister, Donna Gunsaullus.








Left to cherish Nancy’s memory: mother, Jaqueline Gunsaullus; daughters: Amanda Harper of Tulsa, OK, Tabby Lane (Melvin) of Ft Scott, KS, Angie Hall (Kevin) of Lawrence, KS, bonus children, Mariah Hembree Terryn Hembree and Curtis Gray; grandchildren, Braylon, Kenzie, Alec, Kayla, Josh, Mayson, Lexi (Garrett), Peyton and Sydnee; great grandchildren: Aaliyah and Aaden. Siter, Debbie Perkins (Rod) and brother, Steve Gunsaullus, all of Chanute, KS, and her closest friends, Melisa Norton and Shawna Price.
