Sandie Lind

Sandie Jo Lind, age 70, of Mt. Vernon, Missouri, passed away at 10:35 p.m. on Sunday, July29, 2018, at her home. She was born March 26, 1948, in Monett, Missouri, the daughter of Billy and Marie (Pease) Bowman.

Sandie was a 1966 graduate of Verona High School, in Verona, Missouri. Sandie worked for 27 years for the State of Missouri and retired as the manager of the Division of Child Support in Springfield, Missouri. She was an avid gardener who loved cooking, traveling, watching Carter and Noah play baseball, and chasing Lydia. She attended the First United Methodist Church in Mt. Vernon.

On August 25, 1968, she married Johnnie Lind, in Hoberg, Missouri.

Sandie is survived by her husband of 50 years, Johnnie; her father, Billy Bowman of Monett, Missouri; two sons, Casey Lind of Centerton, Arkansas and Chad Lind and his wife, Allison, of Neosho, Missouri; three grandchildren, Carter, Noah and Lydia Lind; one brother, Larry Bowman and his wife, Paula, of Monett; sister-in-law, Viola Preston and her husband, Edward, of Wentzville, Missouri and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Her mother, Marie, preceded her in death.

A visitation will be held from 6:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday, August 3, 2018, at the Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, with a memorial service to follow at 7:00 p.m. in funeral home chapel.

Memorial donations may be made payable to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, in care of the funeral home.

Donna Doss

Donna Lee Doss, age 89, Joplin, passed away on Monday, July 30, 2018 at a local nursing facility.

Donna was born July 19, 1929 in Joplin, daughter of the late James T. "Jack" Brashear and Mary L. "Lola" Turner Brashear. Her family moved to St. Louis when she was 7 years old, and she returned to Joplin at the age of 17. She graduated from Joplin Senior High School in 1948, and worked as a telephone operator for some time, and later worked for LaBarge for over 26 years before retiring in 1993.

She was an active member of Forest Park Baptist Church where she enjoyed working with Vacation Bible School which she did for years, was a proud member of the First Impression Team, and enjoyed singing with the Senior Choir. She loved all of God's creation, especially stray dogs, cats, and birds- which she fed on a regular basis.

In addition to her parents Jack and Lola, Donna was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny E. Doss who passed away on October 31, 1985, and a sister, Peggy Sheets.

Survivors include her children: Lee Doss and wife Rochelle of Joplin, Ralph Doss and wife LeaAnn of Webb City, Pam Stansberry and husband Bill of Joplin, Larry Doss and wife Karen of Nixa, Missouri,; grandchildren, Ryan Doss and wife Ashley, April Orange and husband Dustin, Chad Doss, Kyle Doss and wife Shanon, Matt Doss, Shauna Germiniani and husband Le, Shea Stansberry, Skylan Stansberry, Michael Doss and wife Aisha, and Randi Doss; great-grandchildren, Adyn, Kyler, Case, Luca, Mila, and Phoenix; sister, Betty Miller of Joplin, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be Monday, August 6, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Forest Park Baptist Church Worship Center with Dr. John Swadley officiating. Interment will follow in Osborne Memorial Gardens Cemetery with grandsons serving as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends at Parker Mortuary on Sunday from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Forest Park Baptist Church.

Mary Warner

Mary Jo Warner, 60, passed away Tuesday, July 31, 2018 at her home following an illness.

Mrs Warner was born January 30, 1958 in Anchorage, Alaska. Her parents were Charles and Mary (Nicholson) Murphy.

She graduated from Girard High School and had lived in the Girard/Pittsburg area most of her life. She had owned and operated a tour and travel company. She enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family.

Mary was married to James Warner on April 29, 1987 in Miami, OK. He survives.

Additional survivors include two daughters, Stephanie Warner and Christina Warner both of Pittsburg; two grandchildren, Tiffany Morris and Aaron Warner, both of Pittsburg; and one sister, Linda Kent, Mindenmines, MO.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Vicki Ford; and one brother, Butch Murphy.

She was entrusted to Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena, KS for cremation.

The family plans to celebrate her life by having a memorial service at 2:00 pm, Saturday, August 4, 2018 at the Church of the Nazarene, Pittsburg, KS.

Jo Ann Palmer

Jo Ann Palmer, age 86, Carl Junction, passed away at 11:25 a.m. Monday, July 30, 2018 at St. Luke's Nursing Center, Carthage, after an illness.

Jo Ann was born September 26, 1931 in Pittsburg, Kansas to the late Ernest Glen DeArmond and Mary Irene Poore DeArmond and had lived in the Carl Junction area most of her life.

She graduated from Carl Junction High School and attended Joplin Junior College. A homemaker, Jo Ann was very active with the Carl Junction Senior Citizens Center, where she delivered with the Meals on Wheels program. Jo Ann also served as manager of the Carl Junction Senior Housing Authority for several years. She volunteered as an election judge and was an active member of Carl Junction United Methodist Church. Jo Ann loved her family and will be missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include two daughters, Dorothy J. Haddock and her husband, Ed, Purcell, Vivian I. Robertson and her husband, Jerry, Carl Junction; one son, Alan G. Palmer and his wife, Sherry, Carl Junction; a sister, Jean DeArmond, Seattle, Washington; eight grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren and several other extended family members.

In addition to her parents, Jo Ann was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Lois Newby; and two brothers, Lloyd DeArmond and Eldon DeArmond.

Services are planned for Friday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Carl Junction. Rev. Bob Simon will officiate. Interment will follow at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Clint Haddock, Jarron Ritchie, Gabe Haddock, Chris Palmer, Sean Palmer and Greg Palmer. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6-8:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, in care of Parker Mortuary.

Vera Cole

Vera Dean Cole, 95, passed away at her Neosho home on July 31, 2018. She was born Nov. 26, 1922 in Granby, MO to Ronald and Opal Marie (Sanders) Mesplay. Vera was a lifelong area resident and, along with her late husband, was a dairy farmer in Diamond before locating to Neosho. She was a member of High Street Christian Church. In her spare time, Vera enjoyed gardening, flowers, reading, sewing and cross-stitching.

Vera Dean and Jesse Cole were married April 30, 1943 in Los Angeles, CA; he preceded her in death on Aug. 10, 2011. She is survived by three daughters: Kay Butler and husband, Jim of Lincoln, MO, Linda Eubanks and husband, Virgil of Joplin, MO, and Rhonda Self and husband, Charles of Neosho, MO; six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Vera was preceded in death by her parents; infant sister, Hattie Mesplay; and sister, Mary Lee Bowman.

Services will be held at 10 am Saturday at the Clark Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, Neosho. Virgil Eubanks and Jeremy Eubanks will officiate. Interment will follow at Diamond Cemetery, Diamond, MO. A visitation will be Friday evening from 5:30-6:30 at Clark Funeral Home, Neosho, MO.

The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to Vera’s caregivers Dawn Endicott and Laura Hostetter, the staff of Hospice Compassus, and to Dr. Betasso for the care of their loved one.

Samuel Kinkennon

Samuel D. “Sam” Kinkennon, Sr., age 85, of Duenweg, Mo., passed away on July 29, 2018. At the Missouri Veteran’s Home in Mt. Vernon, Mo., following an illness.

Sam was born on January 27, 1933 in Green County, Iowa, the son of the late Frank S. and Ethel G. (Morlan) Kinkennon. At the age of seventeen joined the United States Army and was a veteran of the Korean War, attaining the rank of Corporal. He married his first wife Charlotte and together they had two sons. He moved the family to Colorado Springs, Co. where he worked as a small appliance repairman and built and raced stock cars. Later he drove a truck across the country putting up canopies for gas stations. In 1968 he met and married his second wife Edna and gained his daughter. He then began working as a serviceman for Union Gas Company while living in Joplin then moving to Carl Junction, Mo. In 1981 he moved to Ramona, Ok. where he became Plant Manager of Synergy Gas, formerly Union Gas until his retirement. He loved sewing with his wife Edna. He enjoyed fishing, bowling, pool tournaments, and fixing small appliances and mechanics.

He married Ruby Lee on July 25, 1983 in Miami, Ok., she preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by two grandsons, Edward Holder and Samuel Kinkennon, III; and one brother, Donald Kinkennon.
Sam is survived by one daughter, Barbara Holder Lightle and husband Steve, Duenweg, Mo.; two sons, Samuel D. Kinkennon, Jr. and wife Deb, Colorado Springs, Co., and Roger D. Kinkennon and wife Ginny, Albuquerque, Nm.; three sisters, Louise Meyer, Minnesota, Pauline Sharp, California and Linda Darr and husband Ray, Iowa; grandsons, Kirby Kinkennon and wife Mary, Colorado, Shane Kinkennon and wife Jenny, Colorado, SPC Robert-Bobby Holder and wife Patty, deployed to Afghanistan; granddaughter, Tiffany Kinkennon, Colorado; granddaughter-in-law, Kelly Kinkennon; step-granddaughters, Chrissy and Linda; and eighteen great-grandchildren.

Victor Strickland

Victor “Bit” D. Strickland, 57, Carthage, MO, passed away Monday evening, July 30, 2018 at Carthage Health and Rehab, Carthage. Victor D. Strickland was born September 16, 1960 in Carthage, MO to Ruth (Scott) Strickland. He worked as a roofer for several years. Victor married Pamela Arney on August 6, 1999 in Miami, OK; she survives. He loved sports, coaching his children, playing for the Harlem Thrillers basketball team, and most of all his family.

Survivors include his wife, Pamela, two sons, Devon Strickland (Chelsey), Seymour, MO, and Trevor Strickland, Carthage, MO; one step son, Jason Clark, Joplin, MO; three brothers, Fred, Nathan and Brian Strickland; one sister, Marilyn Vera, Carthage; nine grandchildren, Avery, Cade, Kwynton, Kelbe, Tayhven, Kyndal, Jace, Noah and Jariah, and baby Nevaeh on the way; also surviving are many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one son, Talon Strickland, two brothers, Winston and Robert “Pooter” Strickland, and three sisters, Tresa, Beverly and Brenda Strickland.

Visitation will be held 6-7 pm, Monday, August 6, 2018 at Knell Mortuary, Carthage. Funeral services will be held 2 pm, Tuesday, August 7, 2018 at the Nazarene Church, Carthage.
