Shirley Petefish

Shirley Ann Petefish, age 82 of Springfield, Mo. passed away on Sunday, July 22, 2018 at Jordan Creek Nursing & Rehab in Springfield.

Shirley was born on January 28, 1936 in Granby, Mo., the daughter of Virgil and Hazel (Douthitt) Williams. She has been a life-time area resident. Shirley worked for many years at Empire District Electric Co. and helped her husband as owners of a number of sheet metal businesses around Joplin, Mo. She was a member of Second Baptist Church in Springfield. She enjoyed music, gardening and especially loved to travel with her husband.

She married Cecil Petefish on June 16, 1957, he survives. Additional survivors include a daughter; Rebecca Turnbough and husband Roger of Springfield, three sons; Kevin Petefish of New Orleans, La., David Petefish and Ron Brottlund of Las Vegas, Nv.

Graveside services have been scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 26, 2018 at Osborne Memorial Cemetery in Joplin, Mo. The family will receive friends prior to the service at the funeral home beginning at 9:30 a.m.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Mason-Woodard Mortuary & Crematory.

Charles Seward

Charles H. Seward, age 90, of Webb City, Mo. passed away at 8:36 a.m. Sunday, July 22, 2018 at Freeman Hospital West in Joplin. Charles was born September 15, 1927 in Joplin and was a lifetime area resident. He was employed as a truck driver with the former Sunshine Biscuit Co. and later worked for Seward Insulation Co. He was an avid fisherman.

Charles is survived by one daughter, Joyce Elkins, Webb City, five brothers, John Seward (Patty) and Ron Seward (Mary) all of Webb City, Jack Riggs, (Rose), Paducah, Ky., Rick Seward (Peggy), Duenweg, and Bill Seward (Kathy), Joplin, three sisters, Ruth Cogbill, Webb City, Shirley Kellogg (Jim), Stockton, Ca. and Patsy Passantino (Joe), Grove, Ok., three grandchildren, ,Justin Elkins, Jason Elkins (Cassandra), and Marci Shofler (Eric), six great grandchildren, Jacob Charles Elkins, Lori Jane Elkins, Ally Morris (Dustin), Gabe Walters,
Katynce Alyse Shofler, and Brayten Micheal Shofler, and three great great grandchildren, Quintyn, Cole and Harper Morris. He was preceded in death by a son in law, Loy Elkins, two sisters, Charlotte Jones, and Alice Townsend, and three brothers, Kenny and Jack Seward and Jessie Riggs.

Services will be at 6:00 p.m. Friday evening at the Mason-Woodard Chapel with Rev. Johnnie Wilkins officiating. Visitation will follow the service. Following cremation, burial will be in the Osborne Memorial Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mason-Woodard Mortuary and Crematory of Joplin, Mo.

Doc Womack

Dr. Charles Patrick "Doc" Womack, age 88, Joplin, passed away on Friday, July 20, 2018 at his home.

Doc was born April 27, 1930 in Humboldt, Kansas, one of 14 born to the late Ralph John Womack and Regina Ann Eckart Womack. He graduated from Humboldt High School, and then served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He returned to Kansas, and went to school at the University of Kansas in Lawrence. He received his Bachelors degree in Engineering, and then became the first person to earn his Doctorate Degree at Kansas University in Electrical Engineering. He was a pioneer in the development of semi-conductors and computer motherboards. He also worked for over 40 years with Autotronics Inc. in Joplin, where he was currently employed. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, and also a member of the Sigma Xi and Eta Kappa Nu Fraternities.

In addition to his parents, Doc was preceded in death by bothers, Rev. Warren Womack, Bernard Womack, Lawrence Womack, Jim Womack, Rev. Emil Womack, Paul Womack, and a sister, Josephine Ketzner.

Survivors include his children, Michael Womack of Joplin, John Womack of Kansas City, Kansas, Jeanne Womack of Joplin, and Kristi Womack and wife Ang McManamon of Brooklyn, New York; brothers, William Womack of Kansas City, Kansas, Joseph Womack of Chicago, Illinois; sisters, Joan Cook of Ottawa, Kansas, Phyllis Miller of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Yvonne "Bonnie" Ohmes of Kansas City, Kansas, and Bernadette "Decky" Cimino of Junction City, Kansas; many very special grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside service will be Friday, July 27, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. in Osborne Memorial Cemetery.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.

Cindy Horine

Cynthia Marie 'Cindy' Horine, age 68, Joplin, passed away at 5:30 a.m. Monday, July 23, 2018 at a local healthcare facility after a long illness.

Cindy was born October 30, 1949 in Parsons, Kansas to the late John Washington Horine and Ruth Lorraine Libby Horine Smith, and had lived in Joplin most of her life.

Cindy worked as an inserter at the Joplin Globe for over twenty years. She was a member at Calvary Baptist Church, and enjoyed cross stitching in her spare time. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include four brothers, Larry Horine of Carl Junction, David Horine of Joplin, Lloyd Smith of Joplin, and Floyd Smith of Florida; a sister, Betty Daniel of Aurora; several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Cindy was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Horine; and three sisters, Patty Friday, Sharon Goettel, and Paulette Horine.

A memorial visitation is planned for Thursday from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.

Lyn Carr

Lynden Lee Carr, age 82, of Joplin, Missouri, passed away Sunday, July 22, 2018.

Lyn was born April 23, 1936 in Joplin, Missouri, to the late Printess and Anna (Becklin) Carr.

He attended grade school in Prosperity and graduated from Carterville High School. After high school, Lyn was drafted into the Army where he faithfully served his country. He worked as a machinist at Boeing in Wichita before relocating to Joplin to care for his mother. Lyn was also a machinist for Sperry-Vickers in Joplin, retiring in the late 70s. After his retirement, Lyn started up his dirt hauling business which he operated for the next decade.

On December 14, 1964 he was united in marriage to Glenna Sue Conway of Wellington, Kansas, and together they shared 53 years of marriage before her passing on February 24, 2018. Lyn enjoyed riding his motorcycle, his Austin-Healey and going to the casino with Sue. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed taking care of the farm.

Lyn was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Glenna Sue; and six siblings.

Survivors include his daughter, Fay Ann Nelson and husband, Robert, of Joplin, Missouri; his son, Scott Carr and the late Ingrid, of Joplin, Missouri; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Pete Carr, of Webb City; a brother-in-law, Thomas Fritsch, of Wellington, Kansas; as well as a host nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Funeral services are 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 28, 2018, at Hedge-Lewis-Goodwin Funeral Home with Pastor Joel Dorris officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery in Joplin. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. Saturday prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Parkinson’s Research Foundation and may be sent in care of the funeral home. Rudy Gardner

Raymond Art "Rudy" Gardner, age 91, Joplin, passed away on Sunday, July 22, 2018 at Adams Street Place Nursing Center in Jefferson City, Missouri with family at his side.

Rudy was born November 10, 1926 in Joplin, one of 12 children born to Ira Gardner and Elizabeth Faulkner Gardner.

He attended Joplin High School, and then served in the United States Army during World War II. He worked for the United States Postal Service as a letter carrier for over 20 years before retiring. He was a member of Blendville Christian Church, and A.F. & A.M. Masonic Lodge #335.

In addition to his parents, Rudy was preceded in death by his six brothers and five sisters.

Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Joan Gardner; daughter, Debbie Frala and her husband Ron; grandson, Brian Frala and wife Heather; great-granddaughter, Maddi Gil all of Jefferson City; numerous nieces and nephews including his good friend and nephew, Jim Gardner and wife Teresa of Holiday Island, AR. and a special niece, Kathie Brooks and husband Jim of Liberty; nephew Steve Gardner and wife Margo; and nephew Rick Wiseman and wife Carol of Joplin.

Graveside services will be Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at 11:30 a.m. at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery with Larry Richardson, Minister officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Van Fund of Blendville Christian Church, Joplin.

Teofilo Rodriguez

Teofilo Rodriguez Jr., 74, passed away at the Mercy Hospital in Joplin, MO, July 12, 2018.

Teo was born in Baytown, TX, August 4th 1943 to Teofilo Rodriguez Sr. and Sarah Duarte Rodriguez. He was the oldest of eight children. Teo was a veteran serving in the Air Force during the Vietnam War.

He married Mary Louise Hernandez July 31, 1965. Teo worked in the oil industry as an accountant. He is survived by his wife Mary; one son, Theophilus Jose Rodriguez of Jasper, MO; two daughters, Sarah Bacon of Las Vegas, Nevada and Sylvia George of Henderson, Nevada; three grand sons and 4 great grandchildren.

 Memorial services and military honors will be held in Las Vegas, Nevada.
