Howard Bailey

Howard C. Bailey, age 90, passed away at 3:08 pm, Thursday, May 23, 2019 at his home after a short illness.

Mr Bailey was born March 11, 1929 in Joplin, Missouri. His parents were Harry A and Pearl J (Oldfield) Bailey.

He was raised in Joplin. He served in the U S Army from 1950 – 51. In the late 60’s he moved to California. While he lived in California he worked at Weiser Lock and loved to fly his plane.

He enjoyed going to the race track and riding down Hollywood Blvd. He returned to Joplin in 1973. He owned and operated Windsor Tank Company in Galena, KS. Howard had a pilot license. He was a historian and a person that never forgot a memory. He also enjoyed working on antique cars.

He was married to Alberta Lee Atkinson on July 12, 1963 in Miami, OK. She passed away Oct 4, 2015. He was also preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Helen Yust, and 3 brothers, Robert Bailey, George Bailey and Harry Bailey.

Surviving is his daughter, Anne Wallace (Kevin) Carl Junction, MO; one step-son, Richard Daniels, Joplin, MO; 2 sisters, Thelma Koval, and Margie Messinger, both of Joplin; and 4 grandchildren, William Lee Grant (Breanna Perkins), Ashley Marie Grant, Cody Lee Daniels, and Kyler Wallace.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 am, Tuesday, May 28, 2019 at Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena, KS. Burial will be in Osborne Memorial Cemetery, Joplin, MO.

Joel Wall

Joel Lester Wall passed away on Friday, May 24, 2019 surrounded by loved ones. Joel was born in Hugo, Oklahoma on December 30, 1931 to Joel Thornton and Dorothy (French) Wall.

 Joel married his beautiful bride, Wanita Ruth (Kitchens) on November 6,1954 at First Baptist Church in Midwest City, OK. He worked as a data processing manager at Kimray, Inc. until his retirement in 2000 and continued on as chaplain for the company until 2006. Joel was an active member in his church as an ordained deacon, Sunday School teacher, and sang bass in the church choir. Joel was a loving husband for 65 years, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. Above all, Joel loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and is rejoicing in heaven with Him today. 

He is survived by his wife Wanita Wall, one brother, John, three children, Joel Phillip Wall and wife Tommye Wall of Midwest City, Oklahoma, Jesse Wall and wife Sarah Wall of Carl Junction, Missouri, Jennifer Doshier and husband David Doshier of Neosho, Missouri, seven grandchildren, Karleigh Wall Perkins, Morgan Clark and Lavon Clark, Jr., Allison Binswanger, Jacob Wall and wife Ceirra Wall, Bradyn Wall, Zeke Wall, Kathryn Doshier and five great grandchildren, Carson Binswanger, Boyd Perkins, Abram Wall, William Clark and Samantha Clark and countless other family and friends. 

 Arrangements via Simpson Funeral Home, Webb City, Missouri. Visitation will be held at 10 a.m.and funeral service following at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 29, 2019 at Crossroads Baptist Church in Carthage, Missouri. Graveside Service will be held immediately after funeral services at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Webb City, Missouri.

Kent Daniels

Herschel (Kent) Daniels, born February 17, 1953 in Neosho, MO, lifelong resident of Seneca, MO passed into eternal rest May 25, 2019 at his home. Kent attended Seneca High School graduating in 1971 and then went to Crowder College. Kent work formerly for L-A-Z Boy 34 years. He became an electrician. Kent loved his Kansas City Chiefs. He was a Christian and never hesitated to share is faith with others.

He is survived by his wife Jerrilyn Churchwell Daniels of the home; His four druthers Shella Whitehead, Seneca, MO, Michele Howard, Kansas City, MO, Lisa Wells, Pittsburgh, KS and Jennifer Ayers, Lee’s Summit, MO; His stepchildren, Michael Wyrick, Witchita, Ks, Mollie Dees, Seneca, MO and David Wyrick, Joplin, MO; His siblings, Connie Brown, Seneca, Karen Gilstrap, Seneca and Curtis Daniels, Loma Linda, MO; his mother-in-law Ann Graves, Joplin, MO; Aunts, Donna Jean Goswick, Racine, Geta Markley, Dennis, KS and Flora Beth Holloway, Chanute, KS; 18 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 pm June 2, 2019 at the Campbell-Biddlecome Funeral Home Seneca, MO.

Funeral services under the direction of Campbell-Biddlecome Funeral Home, Seneca, MO will be held 2:00 PM, June 3, 2019 at the Seneca First Baptist Church with Bro. Jim Wilson officiating. Burial will be in the Kirk Cemetery with Jered Whitehead, Matt Howard, Nate Wills, David Wyrick, Justin Ayers and Tyler Wilson will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Wyrick, Ron Bittle and CA Terry.

Glenn Dolence

Dr. Glenn D. Dolence passed away at home in Webb City on May 24 at the age of 83.

Glenn is survived by wife, Myrna; children, Terry Gaskins (Bob), Kelli Hopkins (David), John Dolence (Phyllis), Lori Good (Chuck), and DeDe Cox (Chris). He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, John Dolence and Beatrice (Hopkins) Dolence, sister Erma Jean Snedegar and brother Ernest Dolence.

Glenn was born on April 29, 1936, in Goodman, Missouri. He graduated from Neosho High School in 1954. He attended Missouri Valley College where he earned his degree in education, history and physical education in 1958. He returned to Neosho and began his career in education as a history instructor. He earned his Masters Degree in counseling in 1961. 

From the classroom, Glenn progressed as director of counseling, assistant principal, and director of curriculum. He was also assistant football coach with Calvin Lane. In 1970 Glenn earned his Ed.D. in higher education administration from the University of Arkansas. He then began his career at Missouri Southern State College as Dean of Men. He served as Athletic Director, then as Vice President for Student Services until his retirement in 1996. Missouri Southern is also where he met his wife of 41 years, Myrna. 

Glenn was an accomplished woodworker and all-around handyman and created beautiful furniture still enjoyed by his children and grandchildren. He believed in changing the world by his many volunteer opportunities. 

Glenn was the former Mayor of Webb City, Chairman of the United Way, active in the Webb City Central United Methodist Church, a lay minister, Webb City Citizen of the Year, and volunteered for many other service projects. During his life, Glenn received many honors including his induction to the MSSU and Missouri Valley Hall of Fame.

A memorial service celebrating his life is scheduled for 2:30 P.M. Tuesday, May 28 at the Central United Methodist Church in Webb City, preceded by visitation from 10:00 A.M. until noon. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to the Dolence Student Leadership Endowment at MSSU or the MSSU Athletic Department.

Carol Riker

Carol Ann (Vestal) Riker, age 73, went home to be with Jesus, Thursday morning, May 23, 2019. Carol was born September 22, 1945 to the late Benjamin Robert and "Mickie" Bertha Maxine (Walker) Vestal, in Oakley, Kansas.

She married Joe Riker in Oakley on November 18, 1961, making their home in the Columbus area. He preceded her in death in 2016. 

Carol spent most of her life as a homemaker, also working for Ace Electric for a while. She was a firm believer in Jesus Christ and was a member of a local Women's Bible Study Group for the last five years. She was the President of the VFW Women's Auxiliary in Columbus for several years. Her family remembers that she was the most amazing cook there ever was; and that everyone loved to eat the foods she made. 

Her family meant the world to her.Survivors include 5 children, Deanna and Leroy Christiansen of Columbus, KS; Rhonda and Tom Reid of Carl Junction, MO; Julia Riker of Joplin, MO; Alycia and David Johnston of Branson, MO; and Joby and Tasha Riker of Columbus, KS; grandchildren, Nic and Linseh Johnson of Oswego, KS; Adrian Woods of Oklahoma City, OK; Eli and Keasley Johnston of Hartford, TN, Adam Johnston of Branson, MO, Isaac Johnston of Branson, MO; Brian and Jennifer Reid of Columbus, KS; Jeremy Hart of Joplin, MO; Alyssa Cañate of Frisco, TX; Gage Riker and Charley Riker of Columbus, KS; foreign exchange students, Nina, Lina, and Jasmine of Germany and Sweden; foster daughter Amanda King; great-grandchildren, Andelyn and Lander Johnson of Oswego; Madalyne, Monica, and Cooper Reid of Columbus; Sawyer Johnston of Branson, MO; and Huxley Johnston of Hartford, TN, as well as many cousins and friends. 

Carol is also survived by siblings Verlene Showalter of Meraux, LA; Pat Bell of Nixa, MO; GaryVestal of Leoti, KS.

Carol was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, a daughter, Jena Marie Riker (10-18-1965), and siblings: Robert, Peggy, Bo, and Lavona.Cremation arrangements are being handled through Derfelt Funeral Home of Columbus, KS. 

The family will host a graveside service Tuesday, May 28, at Park Cemetery Pavillion at 10 AM.Gary Yurk will officiate, and grandson Eli Johnston will sing and play the guitar. Dwight Gregerson

Dwight Gregerson was born February 6, 1928 in Ute, Iowa, the son of Henry and Leona (Jensen) Gregerson. He entered into rest on May 24, 2019 at his home in Neosho, at the age of 91.

 Dwight had worked as a firefighter in Reno, Nevada and then spent thirty years working as a bush pilot in Alaska. 

Dwight and Norma Lee (Kennedy) were married on November 3, 2001 at Laughlin, Nevada and she survives. 

Additional survivors include a daughter, Sandra Crane and husband, Ralph of Homer, Alaska; stepdaughter, Cheri Mack of California; two granddaughters, Julie Nelson and Joy Overson; four great grandchildren, Hayden and Hailey Nelson and Nathan and Faith Overson and one sister, Elna Meller of Yuma, Arizona. 

 In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Gregerson in 2008; a stepdaughter, Karen; sisters, Isabel and the mother of his children, June Gregerson in 2000.

It was Dwight's wish to be cremated and no services are planned at this time.

Robert Walters

Robert Allen Walters, 54, Neosho, MO, entered into rest on May 23, 2019 due to complications following an accident which occurred 19 years ago.

Robert was born August 31, 1964 in Kansas City, MO and moved from Kansas City to the Neosho area in 1979. He had been employed as a kiln operator with La-Z-Boy Midwest. Robert was of the Christian faith; loved woodcarving, going to the lake, fishing, and hunting. 

He is survived by two children, Nicole Dawn Walters-Thurman and husband, Kristopher, and Robert Allen Rae Walters, both of Neosho; one brother, Darrell Duane Walters and wife, Mandy of Rogers, AR; one niece, Kennedy Walters; his mother, Linda Walters of Neosho; his father, Jerry Walters and wife, Beverly; and four grandchildren, Tanner Wayne Thurman, Amber Lynn Thurman, Spencer Lee Thurman, and Skyler Rose Thurman. 

Robert was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Donnie L. Hall; paternal grandparents, W.D. and Dorothy R. Walters; and maternal grandparents, Robert L. and Beannie Rae Steinkamp.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, June 11, 2019 from 5:30 pm until 7:00 pm at Clark Funeral Home, Neosho, MO.
