Sue Tidwell

Shirley Sue Tidwell, 93 years old, was welcomed into the arms of her Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, January 23, 2025 at the Brookdale Rehabilitation Center in Greenwood Village, Colorado. 

Sue was born on July 26, 1931 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma to the late Joe and Ruth (Woody) Maritt. She married the love of her life, Melvin Tidwell on New Year’s Day, January 1, 1949 in Seminole, Oklahoma and to this union three children were born. 

Sue and her sister’s Jeanne and Jo Anne were second-generation members of the Pineville United Methodist Church. She sang in the choir as well as being a faithful member the United Methodist Women’s Organization (Ruth Circle), where she served as past president and treasurer; Pastor/Parish relations, trustee committee and Evangelism Team. She and Mel were cornerstones of the church, supporting all of the ministry and activities. She was a member of the Eastern Star #248 in Anderson, Missouri and the Elk River Extension Club in Pineville, Missouri. Sue enjoyed tole painting, sewing, bridge club and handcrafting.

Sue passed away comfortably in her sleep with her family in attendance. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters Jeanne (Freeman) Curtis and Jo Anne Pearcy.

Sue is survived by her loving husband of 76 years, Mel Tidwell; three children, Mark Tidwell, Mike Tidwell and Karen Ramey; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews; along with a host of other family, church family and friends who will dearly miss Sue.

Memorial Services for Sue will be held at a later date.

Q. L. Blevins

Quenton “QL” Lee Blevins, age 83, passed away suddenly on Sunday, January 26, 2025 in Grove, OK. He was born on July 6, 1941 in Jay, Oklahoma to his parents, William and Ola Blevins.

QL grew up near Jay, OK and attended various county schools in the area. In 1969 he moved to Colorado and worked in the Logging Industry. A few years later he started a Logging Company with his brother Silas, they worked together until 1980. In 1982, QL moved back to the Jay area and drove a dump truck and did backhoe work until he retired in the mid 1990’s. 

QL enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family. We are sure going to miss our QL and his cooking. He always watched over us and made sure we were all doing OK. Always putting us first and parenting us no matter what age we were. We know that our hearts are hurting here on Earth, while his heart is filled with Joy and Happiness reuniting with his heavenly wife Twila. We couldn’t be happier for our mom and dad to finally be together again Eternally.

QL is preceded in death by his late love of his life wife Twila Payton of 48 years of marriage; his great-grandson James Dale; his siblings, Norman, Coleman, Utah, Silas, Clarence and Lloyd; his brother-In-law Virgil Browning.

QL is survived by his children, Judy Kemp and husband Jeff of Jay, OK and Luke Blevins and wife Regina of Jay, OK; sister, Joann Browning of Jay, OK; Sister-In-Law, Wanda Blevins of Southwest City, MO; Grandchildren, Derek Flaming, Amber Barnett and Anthony, Kaitie Layne and Brent, Payton Blevins & Donavah Blake; Great-Grandchildren, Austin Flaming, Malinda Wright, Ray Wright, Logan Wright and Zoey Kemp; Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members and friends.

QL’s Celebration of Life Visitation to greet friends will be held on Tuesday, January 28, 2025 from 6:00-8:00pm at Lawson’s Funeral Homes & Cremation Services Chapel, 311 W. Gray St. Jay, OK 74346.

Judy Byrd

Judith Lynne “Judy” Byrd, age 74, of Goodman, Missouri passed away Saturday, January 25, 2025.

She was born May 23, 1950 in St. Louis, Missouri.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Winford A. and Marney L. Norwood and one stepbrother.

Surviving are three stepsisters.

Judy became disabled at a young age. She was a member of Gunter Methodist Church.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday, January 31, 2025 at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Butterfield, Missouri, under direction of Fohn Funeral Home in Cassville. Pastor Jerry Nickle will conduct the service.

Toni Logan

With a heart as courageous and spirited as a marching band on the Fourth of July, Lee "Toni" (Bess) Logan danced her way into the world on September 1, 1957, in Portageville, MO. 

Her generous nature, supportive attitude, and quick wit combined to form the kind of person you felt lucky to know. Standing at a mere 4'10", she was a proverbial drill sergeant with a sparkling sense of humor. Generously sharing her love, laughter, and wisdom with everyone (like it, or not), Lee was the heart and soul of her family, the glue that held them all together. She passed away at Mercy Hospital Joplin on January 23, 2025 with her son by her side.

Lee's zest for life extended beyond the confines of her loving home in Webb City, Missouri, where she resided for 35 years. She dedicated 29 years of her life as a dispatcher most recently for Triple AAA Taxi in Joplin, before hanging up her headset in 2017. But it was her hobbies that showcased the depth of her creativity and passion. A lover of painting, reading, and sewing, Lee was also a violinist, her music filling the air with the kind of magic you could only find in heartfelt melodies. She previously attended Emmanuel Baptist Church in Webb City. Her faith was as beautiful and unwavering as her love for the famous "Footprints in the Sand" poem. Lee married Brent Logan on June 6, 1988 in Miami, OK.

Lee is survived by her daughters Adria (Justin) Trombley of Rogers, AR and Latosha of Durant, OK; her son Shane (Latisha "Tish") Logan of Webb City; grandchildren Jackson Trombley, Aubry, Launa and Rylan Logan, and Lizann Lalley; and her sister Rayla (Jim) Kanakis of Joplin. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Margaret Bess.

A Celebration of Life honoring Lee's life will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at 1pm at Simpson Funeral Home in Webb City. A memorial visitation will be held from noon until service time at the same venue. Services are under the personal care and direction of Simpson Funeral Home.

Shawn Miller

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Shawn Lee Miller, who left this world on January 27, 2025, after a courageous battle with stage 4 glioblastoma multiforme. Diagnosed in February 2024, Shawn faced his illness with strength and resilience, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born on June 13, 1969, Shawn lived a life full of adventure, hard work, and deep devotion to his family. He shared nearly 30 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Daphne Miller, whom he first dated on Valentine’s Day in 1995 and married on May 7th of the same year.

Shawn’s life was marked by a love for discovery and craftsmanship. He found joy in gold prospecting, gem mining, quilting, gardening, and had an early passion for welding during high school. His skills in construction were evident in his final great adventure—purchasing a Victorian home in Lamar, Missouri, sight unseen, with his wife to restore and make their forever home. Their youngest daughter, Priscilla, joined them on this journey, helping bring their dream to life.

His adventurous spirit led him to live in various places, moving from Veneta, OR (1997–2015) to Vancouver, WA (2015–2018), then to Dolan Springs, AZ (2018), before finally settling in Lamar, MO in November 2018. Along the way, he embraced every new experience, always eager to see and explore new sights.

Shawn is preceded in death by his father, George Miller Jr.; , step mother Rene “Bebe” Miller; and grandparents, Elizabeth “Betty” Walters and Richard “Dick” Walters.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Daphne Miller; his mother, MaryLou Howland (Rod Howland); father- and mother-in-law, Raymond and Mary Carson; his siblings, Christopher Miller (Lorena) and Melissa Miller/Shuler; his children, Levi Miller (Eliz) with granddaughters Jade and Miah, Samantha Ames-Jones (Rick) with granddaughters Mischa, Haven, and Mina, and Priscilla McAfee (Tré McAfee). He is also survived by his beloved cats a grey named Silver but called “Dude”, and a black cat names Pipsqueak, known as “Pippy."

Shawn will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, his adventurous heart, and his dedication to building a beautiful life. His presence will be deeply missed, but his legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations be made to the family in care of the funeral home to assist with final expenses.

Rest easy, Shawn—your journey continues in the stars.

Dan Martin

Lloyd Daniels “Dan” Martin, 84, of Asbury, Missouri, passed away on January 26, 2025, in Joplin, Missouri.
Dan was born on May 29, 1940, in Pittsburg, Kansas, to Arthur Lloyd Martin and Edith Daniels. He graduated from Pittsburg High School in 1958.

On July 11, 1960, Dan married the love of his life, Judy Schooley, in Opolis, Kansas. They shared a beautiful life together until Judy’s passing on May 7, 2013.

He took over the family farm at the age of 17 when his father died. He guided and grew the operation through a lifetime of turbulent markets, challenging weather, and incredible transitions in technology. From early stories of field work with teams of horses to recent years riding tractors through the field with autosteer, he’d experienced the transformation of modern farming firsthand.

He loved the farm and working hard. He believed there were few problems that couldn’t be solved by an extra measure of hard work and commitment. He instilled in his family a sense that things worth doing were worth dedication and would seldom succeed without it.

He was involved with the Crawford County Rural Water #5 since its inception in the 1950’s, serving as plant manager for many years.

He was also a member of the Opolis Christian Bible Church and involved with several farm organizations and boards.

Additional survivors include a daughter Angie Sarley and husband Mike; a daughter-in-law Patty Martin; grandchildren Mic Humble and Trisha, Zac Sarley and Sarah, Andrew Sarley and Emily, Sam Scott and Trevor, Dan Martin and Erin, Jenny Martin and Jake and Scott Martin, along with 18 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Judy, son Gregg Martin, brother Walter Martin, sister Katherine Knabach and a great granddaughter Harper Sarley.

Visitation service will be from 5-7 pm, Wednesday, January 29, 2025 at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the Crawford County 4-H or Opolis Park fundraiser, these may be left at or mailed to the funeral home.

Karen Plummer

Karen Sue Plummer, age 74, of Joplin, Missouri passed away January 27, 2025, at Joplin Health and Rehabilitation Center in Joplin, MO.

Karen was born September 29, 1950 in St. Louis, MO to Alva Edgar Plummer and Lorraine Gladys (Bowyer) Plummer.

 

A talented cosmetologist, Karen found joy in making others feel beautiful. She loved doing nails and makeup, always taking pride in her work. Beyond her profession, she found simple pleasures in life - spending hours solving word search puzzles, collecting movies, and indulging in her love for Johnny Depp films.

Survivors include one son, Gene (Lisa) King Jr., of Linden, Texas; three daughters, Kandy (Ethan) Engert of Lamar, MO., Kristina (George) Whitworth of Farmington, Missouri and Kari (Robert) Shaw of Wright City, Missouri; nine grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Karen was preceded in death by her parents; one son; one brother, one sister and two great-grandchildren.







The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 4:00 pm, Thursday, January 30, 2025 at Daniel Funeral Home.
