(From Parker Mortuary)Mary R. Howard, age 68, Joplin, passed away on Sunday, December 13, 2020 at Freeman West surrounded by her loved ones after a courageous two year battle with cancer.
Mary was born January 11, 1952 in Joplin, daughter of the late Donald and Clara Brand. She grew up in Joplin, and graduated from Joplin High School.
She later continued her education at Franklin Tech where she earned her Licensed Practical Nurse certificate, and later her Registered Nurse Degree from Labette Community College graduating Cum Laude.
She worked for St. John's Hospital in Joplin for over 34 years before retiring. She enjoyed the nursing profession, being a very professional, loving, and a caring nurse who was loved and appreciated by all her patients.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by four sisters, Judy, Ada, Nancy, Kay, and a brother, Donnie.
Survivors include her husband, Joe Howard; son, Jeffrey Howard and wife Kerri of Kansas City; daughter, Jennifer Meyer of rural Seneca; grandchildren, Hailey Howard, Jake Howard, Abby Meyer, Zach Howard, and Tyler Meyer; several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be Wednesday, December 16, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Osborne Memorial Cemetery with Rev. Keith Jackson officiating.
The family will receive friends at Parker Mortuary on Tuesday from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Freeman Cancer Center.
