(From Mason-Woodard Mortuary)Adrea Sue (Krummel) Hobbs, 84, of Joplin, MO, peacefully passed away in her own home on March 30, 2024.
Adrea was born June 20, 1939 to William and Ruth Krummel in Joplin, MO. She was the second of four children: Billie Ruth, Adrea, Bill, and Debi.
After graduating from high school, Adrea earned her associate’s degree from Joplin Junior College. She then earned a Bachelor’s degree in Education from Harding College in Searcy, AR. While at Harding, she met and married the love of her life, Phil Hobbs. At the time of her passing, they had been married for 62 years.
She and Phil had three biological children: Tom, Terry, and Tim. Over the course of the years, they unofficially fostered and adopted many more into their family. Their home and their hearts were always open to anyone in need.
Throughout her life, helping children ranked as one of her top priorities. She taught junior high and high school mathematics and science for 20 years, she taught children’s Bible classes at church from the time she was in junior high until well into her 70s, and she and Phil brought many children (and often their parents) to church.
As her own children grew, Adrea went back to school and earned her Master’s degree in Psychology and a certification as a licensed professional counselor (LPC). After her 20-year teaching career, she spent 30 years as a counselor. This was a ministry to her, much more so than a job, and she was determined to help as many people as she could for as long as she could. She was the most passionate about counseling children through the use of play therapy.
One fun accomplishment...At the age of 65, Adrea became a World Champion Taekwondo Black Belt. She earned three 1st Place trophies in her age group at the ATA World Championships in Little Rock, AR.
She battled dementia as well as other health issues during her last few years. She is now home, free of confusion, with her Maker and Savior. Well done, good and faithful servant.
Adrea was predeceased by her parents William and Ruth Krummel; her older sister Billie Ruth Krummel Verkler; her brother-in-law Bill Verkler; and her brother Bill Krummel. She is survived by her husband, Phil Hobbs; her sister, Debi Abram; her children Tom (Kelly) Hobbs, Terry (Andrea) Hobbs, Tim (Michelle) Hobbs, and Miriam Rodriguez; her 11 grandchildren Michael Hobbs, Ashley Hobbs, Jarrod (Madison) Hobbs, James Hobbs, John Hobbs, Rachel Hobbs, Judah Hobbs, Brianna (David) Garton, Jasmine Hobbs, Lizzy (Jerry) Bell, and Aaliyah Baker; her 3 great-grandchildren Zayden Baker, Wesley Hobbs, and Scarlett Hobbs; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A celebration of her life will be held at Mount Hope Church of Christ on April 20th at 10 AM. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Mount Hope Church of Christ mission fund.
