(From Clark Funeral Home)George "Butch" Owens, age 57, passed away tragically on Thursday, April 4, 2024. He was born to George and Norma Owens on August 15, 1966, in Neosho, MO. Butch graduated from Neosho High School in 1984, where he excelled in various activities.
In his younger years, Butch found great joy in rodeo activities, especially roping and riding bareback broncs. He had a deep love for horses, which stayed with him throughout his life.
Professionally, Butch worked as an Ironworker with the local #584 Union out of Tulsa. His job took him to various places across the country, from North Dakota to California to North Carolina, and even as far as Iraq. Over the years, he also ventured into entrepreneurship, owning several successful businesses.
Butch was known for his love of music, particularly enjoying Elvis Presley's songs and occasionally impersonating him for fun. He was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and enjoyed hunting during his free time. Butch was a dedicated member of the Sheep Shed Church, where his faith played an important role in his life.
He is survived by his loving father, George Owens, and stepmother Janice Owens of Altamont, KS, his son Max Owens of Neosho, MO, his stepsons Ian Liss of Neosho and Zach Liss of Effingham, IL, his siblings Barbie Harris of Neosho, MO, Betsy Judd and husband Chad of Olathe, KS, and Brent Owens and wife Lisa of England. He is also survived by his stepsiblings Pamela Reed and husband Mick of Greensboro, NC, Dana Sweeten and husband Jeff of Edna, KS, Melissa McCollon and husband Scott of Wilmington, NC, and Chris Phelps and wife Sammye of Overland Park, KS. His step-granddaughter Bailey Drake and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends will also greatly miss him. He was preceded in death by his mother Norma Dean Owens and his stepdaughter Meghan Drake.
A funeral service to honor Butch's life will be held at 2 pm on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, at Clark Funeral Homes Chapel of Memories in Neosho, MO. A visitation will take place prior to the service from 1-2 pm. Interment will follow at the New Salem Cemetery. Evert Staib will officiate the service.
