Gladys Dutton

Gladys Dutton, 102 years old, passed away on Friday, April 5, 2024 at Mercy of Joplin.

She was born May 2, 1921 in Seneca, MO, daughter of the late Ann and Arthur Gallemore. She graduated from Seneca High School in 1939. 

Gladys and her high school sweetheart, William “Bill” Dutton were married on March 17, 1940. He preceded her in death on March 16, 2014.







Gladys was a member of the Seneca United Methodist Church where she served as treasurer for several years, but in recent years was attending St. Paul’s United Methodist Church. She worked in medical records and as a Medical Staff Secretary at the former St. John’s Medical Center for 13 years. After retirement, she served as City Clerk of Seneca.

Bill and Gladys enjoyed traveling for several years, spending the winters in Arizona. She loved making quilts for her children and grandchildren. Working with flowers was some of her hobbies. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of her life.

In addition to her parents and husband, Gladys was preceded in death by her sisters, Lura Jean Anderson and Rose Marie Bissey; and a great-granddaughter, Tera Holt Ulrich.

She is survived by one son, William Dutton and wife Carol of Carl Junction and two daughters, Micha A. Lacy of Joplin and Susan Spencer and husband Willis of Joplin: three grandchildren, Lora Ulrich of St. Petersburg, FL, Quincy Siegert and husband Trevor of Carl Junction, and Shayla Edens and husband Austin of Carl Junction; five great-grandchildren, Reece Ulrich and Mallory Ulrich, Ryan William Siegert, Brooklyn Ann Edens, and Nolan Lee Edens.








Graveside services will be Tuesday, April 9, 2024 at 2:30 p.m. in Seneca Cemetery with Arthur Wayne Anderson officiating.

The family will receive friends at Parker Mortuary on Tuesday from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Joplin Humane Society.
