Shirley Ricketts

(From Simpson Funeral Home)

With a spirit as vibrant as the frames she intricately crafted, Shirley Lee Ricketts was born on November 23, 1936, in Pittsburg, Kansas.

A proud only child, Shirley carried the strength and resilience she inherited from her father throughout her life, making her presence known and loved by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

She inherited a feisty and stubborn charm, also, from both her mother and father. She was a devoted mother, a cherished grandmother, and a loyal friend. Her life was a testament to the power of love and the strength of family.

Shirley was a woman of many talents and passions. Her career as a photo framer was a reflection of her artistic spirit and meticulous nature. However, it was not just her work that showcased her zest for life. Shirley found joy in the rhythm of square dancing, the thrill of a bowling match, the excitement of rodeos, and the beauty captured in her photographs. Her love for these hobbies took her to many places, introduced her to countless friendly faces, and filled her photo albums with precious memories.

Shirley loved music, and masterfully played the piano. She had previously worked at the St. Johns Hospital Auxiliary for many years. Above all, what mattered most to Shirley was her family. She held a special place in her heart for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whose lives were enriched by her love and guidance.

Shirley is survived by her sons, Allen (Vicki) Rice, Steve (Tammy) Rice, and Rick (Ruth) Rice, and her life partner, Donald Muncy. She is also survived by her beloved 11 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Glenn "Tarp" and Alice Ricketts, and her daughter, Melanie Moore. Ephesians 2:10 reminds us, "For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." Shirley's life was indeed a masterpiece, filled with good works, that will be remembered and celebrated by all who knew her.
