(From Derfelt Funeral Home)Shirley P. Dickinson, age 91, passed away at 6:04 pm, Friday, August 23, 2024 at Freeman West Hospital, Joplin, Missouri.
Shirley was born August 13, 1933 in Eureka, Kansas. Her parents were William Perry and Ada Louise Mitchell. She lived most of her life in Oswego, Kansas.
She worked as a seamstress at Glenn Berry Manufacturing for 25 years. She then began driving a school bus for USD 504, Oswego, for over 10 years. At the same time, she was a homemaker and helped her husband work at their family farm. She was also a Mary Kay Independent Beauty Consultant.
She was a very talented person. She performed in various country music bands while playing guitar and singing at venues around the area. She enjoyed cooking and making porcelain dolls. Shirley was a member of First Baptist Church, Oswego, Kansas.
Shirley was married to Austin William Grant Dickinson on November 26, 1955 in Oswego, Kansas. He preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her parents, one son, Austin Matthew Dickinson, two sisters, Mary Medlin, Janice Roy; and one brother, William Mitchell.
She is survived by one daughter, Lydia King (Kent), Vian, Oklahoma; one daughter in law, Tori Dickinson, Oswego, Kansas; one sister, Gaile Dickinson, Oswego, Kansas; five grandchildren, Austin Campmier, Derek Schmitt, Nichole Mahnke, Amanda Schmitt, and Matthew Dickinson; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were at 10:00 am, Tuesday, August 27, 2024 at Derfelt Funeral Home, Oswego. Walter Keener l officiated. Burial was at Oswego Cemetery.
The family received friends from 9:00 to 10:00 am, Tuesday, August 27, 2024 at the funeral home.
