(From Parker Mortuary)Samuel Perry Potter, 68, passed away on August 21, 2024, in Joplin, MO. He was born on April 11, 1956, in Korea, to the late Troy and Barbara (Reynolds) Potter.
Growing up in a military family, Samuel's childhood was a tapestry of experiences as he moved from place to place, forming friendships and memories along the way. He eventually laid down roots in Joplin, MO, where he graduated from Parkwood High School. His early years were characterized by adaptability and resilience, traits that would define him throughout his life.
Samuel's professional journey was marked by his dedication and hard work. He spent many years managing a local convenience store. Later, he brought his talents to the Furniture Factory Outlet.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Samuel's true passion was his family. He was a cherished stepfather to Susie Hamilton (Shane) and Jason Hamilton. His grandchildren, Samantha Bassett (Charlie), Ronald Bassett (Marissa), Randall Bassett (Kristian), several other grandchildren, along with numerous great-grandchildren, were the light of his life. Samuel's love for them was boundless, and he reveled in every moment spent in their company. He is also survived by his loving girlfriend, Rayma Reed.
He found solace in long walks and spending time at the library and The Salvation Army. An avid collector, Samuel took great pleasure in adding to his assortment of bracelets, knives, canes, and watches, each piece holding a special place in his heart.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, James Potter.
When we think of Samuel, we will celebrate a life well-lived, full of passion, kindness, and an unwavering commitment to family. He will be deeply missed, but the stories of his life will continue to be told with fondness and a smile, just as he would have wanted.
Cremation arrangements are under the direct care of Parker Mortuary, Joplin, MO.
