Carolyn Copher

Carolyn Sue Copher of Webb City, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on August 23, 2024 next to her husband. Carolyn was a beacon of generosity, compassion, and thoughtfulness, illuminating the lives of all those fortunate enough to know her. 

Born on October 23, 1949, in Webb City, MO, Carolyn was a vibrant thread in the fabric of her community, dedicating her life to the service and nurture of others.








Carolyn was a passionate educator, operating her in-home daycare for many years before retiring in 2017. Her love for children was evident in the dedication and joy with which she approached her work. The impact she had on the lives of countless children was immeasurable. 

In her retirement, Carolyn continued to serve others by managing the food pantry at Abundant Life Church for 19 years. Her faith was a guiding light in her life, as she embodied the Christian principle of "love thy neighbor" in every aspect of her life. The verse from Proverbs 31:26, "She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue," was a testament to her character and commitment to service. Her husband Larry stated, "if we were millionaires, she would have given it all away."

Aside from her impactful professional life, Carolyn cherished spending time with her family, particularly her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She delighted in traveling to Branson with her husband, Larry, indulging in their shared love for various shows like "Legends" and "Dixie Stampede". Her prowess in the kitchen was renowned, her meals a testament to her warm, nurturing spirit. The memory of Carolyn's laughter filling a room, her radiant smile, and her selfless nature will forever be engraved in the hearts of her loved ones.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents Lue and Bonnie Smith; a brother, Butch Smith; and a nephew, Steve Smith. 

She is survived by her devoted husband, Larry Copher; their son, Chad (Charyl) Copher of Webb City; sisters Marilyn (Dale) Connely of Joplin and Sharon Ann Smith of Cassville; grandchildren Kaleb (Kayla) Copher of Webb City, Mariah (Seth) Watkins of Webb City, Joshua (Kiley) Copher of Joplin, Justin Wininger of Joplin and Norman (Kandi Midget) Wininger of Columbus, KS; along with great-grandchildren Kael, Kaisley, Kreed and Knox Copher, Weslee and Levee Watkins, Amorie, Flynn and Jasmine Wininger, and Jace, Landon and Ethan Midget.








A visitation will be held from 6-7pm on Tuesday, August 27, 2024 at Simpson Funeral Home in Webb City. A celebration of Carolyn’s life will take place on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, 10am at the same location with Chaplain Kyle Beverlin officiating. Inurnment will follow at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery in Joplin.
