Amy Melton

Ethel "Amy" Nelsiemay (Palmer) Melton, age 74 of Baxter Springs, passed away at her home at 1:54 PM on Wednesday, May 21, 2025.

Amy was born in Tulsa, OK on May 13, 1951 to Charles Ray Palmer, Sr. and Juanita Marie (Erskin) Palmer. Her early years were spent living in Diamond, MO, but she spent most of her adult life living in Galena and Baxter Springs. 

Throughout her life she worked in various locations including for Celltron in Galena in the 1990's, Liebherr in Baxter Springs in the late 1990's, Housekeeping at St. John's Hospital in the early 2000's, Walmart in the mid 2000's, and most recently, as a bus aide for the Joplin School System in the late 2000's. She enjoyed bowling while she was physically able, and also enjoyed crocheting, sewing, and reading her bible.

She was united in marriage with Jason A. Melton on February 14, 2003 in at Cardin Baptist Church in Cardin, OK. He survives.

Additional survivors include two daughters, Verna Dawn Foster (husband, Chevy) of Galena, Crystal Walton (husband, Dustin Walton, Sr.) of Galena; six grandchildren; Dustin Walton, Jr. (Kelsa), Felicia Walton (Jake), Zachary Walton (McKayla), Tyler Lake (Chrystal), Bradley Lake, Hailey Lake; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Juanita; and two brothers, Charles Palmer, Jr., and Harry "Hap" Palmer.

Mrs. Melton has been entrusted to Derfelt Funeral Home of Galena for cremation. A memorial service will be held at Derfelt Funeral Home of Galena at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, May 27, 2025.
