Tom Moore

Thomas Lee “Tom” Moore, age 80, of rural Baxter Springs, Kansas, passed away peacefully on May 15, 2025, at the Quaker Hill Nursing Home in Lowell, Kansas.

Tom was born on November 19, 1944, in Baxter Springs, to John Byron and Geraldine “Jerry” (Moyer) Moore. After graduating from Baxter Springs High School, Tom began his career with Hormel Foods. During his time there, he worked as an assistant plant manager and later as a cattle buyer, residing in Springfield, Missouri; El Dorado Springs, Missouri; and Loma Linda, Missouri.







Following his retirement from Hormel due to health reasons, Tom moved to Tennessee Prairie in rural Baxter Springs. There, he found joy in country life, visiting with neighbors and enjoying the companionship of the stray animals that found their way to his home.

Tom is survived by one son, Stacy Lee Moore (Amy), Loma Linda, Mo.; one daughter, Shannon D. Shannon (Clint), Baxter Springs, Ks.; five grandchildren, Sydney Shannon, Trey Shannon, Margaret Amershek (Lukas), Emily Moore and Abigail Moore; one great-granddaughter Zayla Reed; one brother, John B. Moore, Ardmore, Okla.; his longtime companion and caregiver Marilyn Edwards, and a host of friends.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, May 29, 2025 at 11:00 a.m., at the Baxter Springs Cemetery. Pastor Brad Hunt will officiate. Tom has been entrusted to Derfelt’s Baxter Chapel for cremation. Online condolences may be expressed at www.derfeltfuneralhomes.com.
