(From Ulmer Funeral Home)Carolyn Barlow, 78, of Carthage, Missouri, passed away at home surrounded by her loving family on Monday, May 19, 2025. Carolyn was born on August 16, 1946, in Carthage to Coy Mitchell Sr. and Mildred Flippo. She lived in Carthage most of life and for a few years in Springfield, Illinois.
Carolyn was a hard worker. Over the years she did housekeeping work at the Travel Lodge, Alamo Plaza, and Precious Moments Chapel. She also worked as a laundry attendant for Tj’s Laundry Mat, as a car hop for Snappy’s Drive Inn in Arcadia Park, and from home for Morgan Plastics. During her free time, she loved to see what treasures she could find at yard sales, she liked to feed the birds and squirrels, and to watch her soap operas.
Carolyn was joined in marriage to her best friend, Bob Barlow on August 3, 1964: he preceded her in death on January 22, 2024.
Carolyn is survived by her sons, Steve Barlow (Marcella) of Carthage, Dennis Barlow (Beverly) of Joplin; daughters, Pam Barlow of Miami, Oklahoma, and Donna Swagerty (Kenny) of Sherman, Illinois; seven grandkids, Nick, Cameron, Emily, Tylan, Dakota, and Maservi, and Ricky Lee; two nieces, Marsha Hendrix and Ellen “Brat” Poage (Jason); and one special friend, Kim.
Along with her parents and husband, Carolyn was preceded in death by her siblings, Coy Gene Mitchell, Rex Lee Mitchell, and Laretta Maye Hendrix.
A funeral service will be held for Carolyn at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at Ulmer Funeral Home. The visitation will be held the evening before at 6:00 PM on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at Ulmer Funeral Home. The burial will be at Park Cemetery following the service.
