Robert S. “Bob” Owen, age 78, passed away on Tuesday April 7, 2015, at Freeman Hospital, following a sudden illness.
Bob was born on July 27, 1936 in Joplin the son of the late Wilbur Sinclair Owen and Roberta (Whitwell) Owen. He has been a lifetime area resident. Bob comes from a well-respected family of which he was extremely proud. His Grandfather was a local Judge and his father owned numerous mines in the area. He was very proud of his family heritage. Bob was an accomplished businessman. He worked for Spicer Chevy and Oldsmobile in Neosho for many years, followed by owning and operating Bob Owen Auto Center on 7th Street in Joplin since the early 70’s. He married Donna (Kitts) Landrith and together they had four children. He later married Betsy Woolsey on August 19, 1984 and together they had one daughter and a large blended family.
Bob is survived by his wife Betsy Owen, Joplin; one son, Dallas Owen, Springfield, Mo.; four daughters, Debra Emerick, Joplin, Kim Russell, Joplin, Melissa Unrein, Topeka, Ks., Felicia Owen, Kansas City, Mo.; one step-daughter Mandy Brown, Carl Jct., Mo.; two sisters, Becky Cutter, Portland, Or., and Joanne Faulkner, Kansas City, Mo.; eleven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A Memorial visitation will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday at Mason-Woodard Chapel. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be given to the Joplin Humane Society or to Watered Gardens in care of the mortuary.
Arrangements are under the direction of Mason-Woodard Mortuary & Crematory.
