Walter L. Avery age 88 of Diamond, Mo passed away at the Mercy Hospital of Joplin.
He was born on March 7, 1927 in Joplin, Mo the son of Bill and Alta “Jones” Avery. Walter was a WWII and Korean War Veteran serving his country in the United States Army. He married Lois Cole on March 7, 1979 in Miami, Ok. Walter worked as an auto body repair man, owned and operated L and W Speedy Mart in Lanagan, Mo, and maintained a busy flee marked booth at Deans Flea Market in Carthage, Mo
Walter was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: Ralph and Art Avery three sisters Mary Baker, Elenor Putman and Sue Wright; and a step son in-law Gerald Sammons. Survivors include his wife Lois, a son Stan Avery, a stepson Duane Cole and wife Cathy, four stepdaughters: Patty Cole and husband Larry, Dee Ann Sammons Debra Cole and Connie Toodle and husband Tony; a brother Bob Avery and wife Syble, two sisters: Vivian Butts and Freeda Derher and a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Memorial graveside services will be held at 10:00 am Wednesday April 29, 2015 at the Stone Cemetery with Pastor Mike Whorlow officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 pm Tuesday April 28, 2015 at the Mason-Woodard Mortuary. The family suggests contributions to the Disabled American Veterans in care of the mortuary.
