Virginia Lee Walker, age 91, went to be with her Savior on April 6, 2015.
Virginia was born April 2, 1924, to the late Harry and Rachel (Youngblood) Workizer in Joplin.
She married Howard D. (Bud) Walker on May 31, 1942 in Joplin. Howard preceded her in death on January 14, 1994.
Virginia was a long time employee of Newman's Department Store. She also worked for Oxford Health Care where she enjoyed helping others, retiring in 1997.
Virginia (Workizer) Walker graduated from Joplin High School with the class of 1942. Shortly thereafter, as a new bride, moved with her husband to California where Howard was to do basic training in the Army branch of service. Later, they settled in Oronogo where, working together, they built their own home and started raising a family. Virginia was very active in the First Baptist Church there. She taught Sunday School for many years and was an Assistant Director of the Children's Church. She also enjoyed doing volunteer work at Crosslines Churches of Joplin and was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Webb City at the time of her passing.
She is survived by two sons, Mitchell Walker and his wife, Mary of Ozark, Missouri, Stanley Walker and his wife Claudia of Joplin; her grandchildren, Jason Walker of Springfield, Missouri, Brendan Walker and wife, Jennifer of Gardner, Kansas, Devin Walker and wife, Kristy of Joplin; great-grandchildren, Baylie Casteel, Jade Walker and Kyla Walker; sister in-law, Marjorie Workizer of Springfield and a brother in-law, John Newby of Webb City.
Preceding her in death are a brother, Arnold Workizer; sister, Mildred Giett; grandson, Trevor Lynn Walker and a brother in-law, Willie Giett.
Funeral services are planned for Friday, April 10th at 1:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary. Interment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Webb City, Missouri.
