Our loving, beautiful, courageous Mom, peacefully went Home, April 6th, after an 18 month illness.
Leona was born July 29, 1938 in Joplin, Missouri to Ethel Cox Aber and David Aber. She was lovingly raised by her grandparents Emma and William Cox. She graduated from Joplin High School in 1956.
She worked at several different jobs. Her favorites were Joplin Piano and babysitting for several families through the years. Leona was a member of Bethany Presbyterian Church and The Order of The Eastern Star.
Leona married Kenneth "Gopher" Babcock , after meeting him on a blind date. They were together for 32 years until his death, on April 6th, 1989.
Two years later she was blessed with love again, and married Thomas Dixon. They were together for 15 years, until his death, on May 13th, 2006.
Survivors include her daughters; Karyn Babcock Sykes, Janet Babcock Banes and husband Todd, Diann Babcock Starne and husband Paul, and Carol Babcock Dyer and husband Chad. Grandchildren; Justin (Jake) Thomas, Josie Thomas, Kendra Carver, Ashley Holstrom, Amanda Oxford, Brandy Beeching, and Tara Francisco, 14 great-grandchildren, a brother Rudy Canki and wife Ann, nieces, Dorothy, Julie, and Angie, and her childhood friend Mary Lynne Turner.
Leona was preceded in death by her grandparents, her parents, and her brother Jack Aber.
Graveside services will be Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery in Joplin.
Our family would like to thank the staff of National Health Care, who lovingly cared for our mom. Leona truly loved all of you.
