Shirley Ann (Toutz) Hatfield, age 81 of Joplin, passed away at 6:55 p.m. Saturday, April 11, 2015 at Mercy Hospital following a sudden illness.
Born May 11, 1933 in Joplin, she was the daughter of the late Carl F. Toutz and Gladys I. Hurst Toutz and lived in Joplin most of her lifetime. She had also lived in Noel, MO, where she graduated High School. She also graduated from Joplin Business College. Shirley worked eleven years for the Missouri State Unemployment Agency before turning her focus on making her home and being a mother. Along with her late husband, she co-owned Independent Asphalt Products, Inc.
On October 16, 1955, she married Elvan Eugene (Gene) Hatfield in Joplin. He preceded her in death January 13, 1997. A brother, William F. Toutz, also preceded her in 2012.
Survivors include two sons, Richard Hatfield and wife Christina of Joplin, Carl Hatfield and wife Marlena, of Joplin; two daughters, Kimberly Libby and husband Dennis of Neosho, Robin Campbell and husband George of Joplin; seven grandchildren, Jennifer Libby-Jones, Kyle Libby, Nick Hatfield, Hailee Hatfield, Carlee Benge, Grant Campbell and Sonja Wheeler; one great-granddaughter, Caselynn Benge; two great-grandsons, Richtun and Laytun Hatfield, with another great-grandchild, Hayden Libby, on the way. Her beloved dog, Frannie, also survives.
Committal services will be held 3:00 p.m. Tuesday at Mount Hope Cemetery Chapel with Rev. Joe Crosthwait officiating. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary. Memorial contributions may be made to Joplin Humane Society or St. Paul's United Methodist Church.
