Donna Lee Reed, age 85, of Lamar, passed away Saturday, March 28, 2015 at Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Lockwood.
Donna was born May 4, 1929, the oldest of the three children of Floyd and Alice (Parker) Schell. After graduating from Golden City High School, she married James Anthony Reed on June 30, 1947 at Tacoma, Washington where Jim was stationed in the U.S. Army. They returned to Barton County to farm and raise their two sons, Terrel and Ben. In addition to being a devoted wife, mother, homemaker, and farm wife, Donna had worked at Big Smith, Blue Top, and Papa’s Pizza. She was an active member of Oakton United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school and positively influenced many young families through MOPS. Even as her health was failing, Donna continued to be a diligent prayer warrior for family, friends, neighbors, and people she had never met.
After sharing 54 years of marriage, Jim passed away May 31, 2002. Donna was also preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Alice; her brother Roger Schell; her sister, Joan Reed; a granddaughter, Tammy Reed; and a grandson, Brad Reed.
Survivors include two sons, Terrel Lee (Yolanda) Reed, McKinney, Texas and Ben Anthony Reed, Jasper, Missouri; two grandsons, Adam (Denette) Reed, Kaneohe, Hawaii and Tim (Jenny) Reed, Virginia Beach, Virginia; and seven great-grandchildren, Benton, Olivia, Chloe, Whittley, Marissa, Rebekah, and Renee.
Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 1st at Oakton United Methodist Church with Rev. Larry Garfield officiating. Burial was in Barton City Cemetery northeast of Liberal, Missouri.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Brad Reed Memorial Scholarship Fund in care of the funeral home.
