James 'Jim' LeRoy Atwell, age 79, of Carl Junction, Missouri, went to his heavenly home on Friday, July 17, 2015 at National Health Care in Joplin.
Jim was born December 23, 1935 to the late Sam Atwell and Anne Templeton Atwell in Joplin. He graduated from Parkwood High School in Joplin and then joined the U.S. Navy. Jim worked at Missouri Steele for several years and later retired from the Joplin R-8 School District in the maintenance department. Jim was a part of the First Assembly of God in Carl Junction and Northview Assembly in Joplin for many years. He had a hobby of arranging flowers and loved making corsages for the ladies of the church.
Jim is survived by his wife, Verlene Smith Atwell, whom he married on September 16, 1972 in Galena, Kansas.
Additional survivors include a son, Brandon Scot Atwell and his wife, Mandee, of Kansas City, MO.; grandchildren, Brylynn Claire and Callen James Atwell; niece, Becky Martin and nephew, Sam Atwell.
He is preceded in death by his siblings, Bud Atwell and Marjorie Krokroskia as well as a niece, Rhonda Martin.
Services are planned for Thursday, July 23rd at 11:00 a.m. at Parker Mortuary, with internment to follow at Osborne Memorial Park Cemetery in Joplin. Family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6-7:00 p.m. at the mortuary.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri.
