Rayma Lea Conrad, 64, Joplin, passed away July 29, 2015 in Joplin, following a three year battle against ALS.
She was born January 21, 1951 in Stella, Missouri, the daughter of Leonard and Millie (Douthitt) Carnes. Rayma was a lifelong area resident. She graduated in 1969 from Neosho High School and attended School of the Ozarks. For a time, she was employed with the Joplin R-8 School District as a teacher’s aide and later worked in retail sales at May’s Drug Warehouse in Joplin. Rayma was a longtime member of the Southwest Missouri Democrats and at one time the Vice Chair of the Jasper County Central Democratic Committee. She was an elected delegate to both the State and the Democratic National Convention in 2012 for the 7th Congressional District. She was a longtime member of the local Democratic Women’s Club. She loved gardening, animals and watching birds.
Rayma married Buddy Harris Conrad in June of 1971 and he preceded her in death on September 19, 2007. She is survived by one son, Dustin Conrad and wife, Heidi of St. Charles, MO; three grandchildren, Tristian, Vivian and John; three sisters, Linda Thurman and husband, Phillip of Seneca, Connie Croy and husband, Marshall of South Carolina and Mary Hurst and husband, Dale of California; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Rayma is preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Doug Carnes.
