Joe Jerry Whyman, age 62, of Lamar, Missouri, passed Sunday, July 26, 2015 at his home after a long battle with cancer.
Joe was born September 9, 1952 at Lincoln, Nebraska to Clyde William Whyman and Ruth (Jelinek) Whyman. In 1970 he graduated Lamar High School. On May 4, 1973 he married Vickie Lynn Clements and together they raised their two children. He had worked for O’Sullivan Industries for 37 years, working his way up from the bottom to his final position as Assistant Plant Manager. After O’Sullivan’s, he worked at Nevada Regional Medical Center as a Materials Manager, retiring in September 2014.
A lifelong love of bowling and golfing with his family and friends was his passion. He also enjoyed being involved with his grandchildren’s activities and sports and was a shade tree mechanic for friends and family.
Joe leaves behind his wife of 42 years, Vickie Whyman; one daughter, Brandy Whyman of Joplin, Missouri; one son Daniel (Julie) Whyman of Lamar; three grandchildren, Lauren, Matt and Miles; one sister, Jane (Ivan) Obert of Joplin, Missouri; four sisters-in-law, Judy Engel of Manitou Beach, Michigan, Janice (Bill) Hill of Joplin, Missouri, Georgana Neher of Lamar, Missouri, and Rose Clements of Carthage, Missouri; one brother-in-law, Mark (Roma) Clements of Irving, Texas; and many nieces, nephews, and a large extended family.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Clyde and Ruth Whyman; two brothers, Butch and Michael Whyman; and one sister Susan Felkner.
A Memorial service will be 6:00 pm Thursday, July 30, 2015 at Daniel Funeral Home with visitation following the service. There will be a private family burial at Memory Gardens Cemetery on Friday.
