Joseph K. Roberson, age 96, of Bentonville, Arkansas, formerly of Joplin, Missouri, joined our Lord on Saturday, July 4, 2015 following a brief illness.
He was born October 25, 1918 in Pierce City, Missouri to Jesse and Catherine (O’Flarity) Roberson.
Joseph served in the United States Air Corp from 1942 to 1945. He served with distinction and was highly decorated. After serving his country he and his family relocated to Joplin, Missouri. Joe worked thirty-seven years for the Campbell Soup Corporation in sales and marketing and retired in 1985. He enjoyed people and his quick wit gave great joy to everyone who knew him. Joe was a sports fan and loved Cardinal baseball. He supported Missouri Southern State University, University of Arkansas and Bentonville Arkansas High School Athletics. He helped train numerous Little League managers. Joseph was an avid hunter and sportsman and was affectionately referred to as “Chicken Joe” for his prowess in the pursuit of Prairie Chickens in Kansas.
Joseph is survived by his wife of seventy-four years, Catherine. Also surviving are his children; Beverly Ann Myatt, Mary Johanna Busby, R. James Roberson, Stephen Paul Roberson, Thomas Joseph Roberson and wife, Gayle, nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 9, 2015 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Burial with full military honors will follow at Osborne Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 8, 2015 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the chapel of Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary.
Those gentlemen honoring his life by serving as pallbearers will be; Travis Roberson, Scott Roberson, and Tyler Roberson
The family requests contributions be made to VFW Post 534 or St. Mary’s Catholic Church in care of the mortuary.
