Gregg Max Kirkendoll, age 76, Midwest City, Oklahoma, passed away on Sunday, January 27, 2019, at Alliance Health Midwest Hospital.
Gregg was born April 6, 1942, in Columbus, Kansas, son of the late Connie Max Kirkendoll and Doris Moore Kirkendoll. He grew up in Kansas and graduated from Pittsburg High School where he was the class president and an all-state athlete. As a young child, Gregg was diagnosed with polio and rushed to Kansas City where he was treated for several months. He was encouraged to exercise, and through that recovery, he became a gifted athlete. He was all-state in high school basketball, track, baseball, and football. He went to Pittsburg State University on a baseball scholarship, and also played basketball for them. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration.
Gregg worked for years in the insurance industry, and moved from Joplin to Tulsa, and on to the Oklahoma City area. He remained physically active and was a lifelong runner. He was a member of the Pittsburg Masonic Lodge, York Rite, and Scottish Rite bodies. He was known for his wit, humor, and his encouragement through Facebook posts.
Gregg is survived by his children, Sam Kirkendoll of Palm Bay, Florida; Jill Hayes (Kevin) of Melbourne, Florida; Sally Kirkendoll of Palm Bay, Florida; and Kristine Kirkendoll of Arlington, Texas; his grandchildren Karli, Cameron, Miles, Alison, and Daniel; his brother, Dennis Kirkendoll of Joplin, Missouri; and his sister and niece, Deby Callihan and Joy Bucher of Las Vegas, Nevada.
Funeral services will be Saturday, February 2, 2019,at 10:00 a.m. in Joplin, Missouri, at Parker Mortuary Chapel with Nancy Hutson officiating. Entombment will follow at Baxter Cemetery, Baxter Springs, Kansas, with Masonic Rites.
