Thomas E. Johns, age 80 of Carl Junction, Mo., passed away on Thursday, January 24, 2019 at Mercy Hospital in Joplin, Mo. following an illness.
Tom was born on May 18, 1938 in Parma, Mi., the son of James L. Johns and Phyllis (Perry) Ruperd. He has been a long-time area resident, Tom owned and operated his own tree service for many years. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Carthage, Mo. Tom enjoyed fishing, watching wrestling, tending his yard and garden and tinkering on old tractors.
He married Vida Sanders on December 21, 1959, she survives. Additional survivors include four daughters; Sharon Neale and husband Carl of Carl Junction, Susan Johns of Webb City, Mo., Shirley Wehmeyer and husband Dave of Carl Junction, Sandra Richardson and husband Mike of Stilwell, Ks., seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, a step-father, George Ruperd, a brother, W.J. Johns and a sister Carol Johns.
Funeral services have been scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 29, 2019 at the Mason-Woodard Chapel. Burial will follow at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends during a time of visitation from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Children's Mercy Hospital or to the American Heart Association in care of the mortuary.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mason-Woodard Mortuary & Crematory.
