John Michael “Mickey” Boles, Jr., age 61 of Joplin, passed away on Tuesday, January 15, 2019 in Eagle Rock, MO from a sudden illness.
Mickey was born in Kansas City, MO on July 19, 1957 to the late John Michael Boles, Sr., and Constance Claire (Brown) Boles. He grew up in Shawnee Mission, KS and graduated from Rockhurst High School in 1975. He then attended Regis University in Denver, Colorado, and went on to graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from Kansas University in 1980. He worked for several years with Revco while living in Olathe, KS, before moving to the Joplin area and working as a pharmacist and district manager at Walmart Pharmacy for 28 years, and he worked as a pharmacist at Freeman Hospital for 14 of those years.
Mickey married the love of his life, Mary (Anderson) Boles, on May 25, 1979. They had six children: Tina McAfee and husband Brad of Carl Junction, John Boles and Jessica Hembrough of Webb City, Jeff Boles and wife Alison of Joplin, Jessica Morey and husband Caleb, Hannah Aldridge and husband Jonathan, and Holly Bennett and husband Paden, all of Carl Junction. They are blessed with ten grandchildren as well.
Mickey’s life was his family, and he loved them fiercely and unconditionally. His generous and kind heart extended to all who knew him, welcoming everyone with open arms. His faith in God permeated his life and shined through his character. His favorite places included St. Augustine, FL, where he made many childhood memories and was able to bring his family many times, Eagle Rock, MO, where he spent much of the last several years with his family at their lakehouse, and of course, their “Honeydew Ranch” in Joplin, MO. Truly, anywhere with family was Mickey’s home. After devoting his life to loving like Jesus did, his family takes comfort in knowing he is now in his heavenly home.
Mickey is survived by his wife, children, and their families. Other survivors include his brothers, David Boles, Danny Boles, Paul Boles, and their families, his mother-in-law Joyce Anderson, sister-in-law Julie Hook and her daughter, brother-in-law David Anderson and his wife, as well as aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and countless friends.
A celebration of life service will be held at Christ’s Church of Oronogo on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at 11:00 AM with Peter Buckland officiating.
Memorial donations can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, one of Mickey’s favorite charities, or The Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration in honor of Mary’s sister, who was diagnosed with this disease in 2016. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary in Joplin, MO.
