Jessy E. Ford, Jr., age 96, Joplin, passed away at 3:15 p.m. Friday, January 18, 2019 at his home after an illness.
Jessy was born October 3, 1922 in Chelsea, Oklahoma to the late Jesse E. Ford, Sr. and Estella Cornelius Ford. He and his wife lived in Joplin since 1947, moving from Tulsa.
Jessy was a carpenter by trade and excellent craftsmanship was the standard he lived by. He became a member of the Carpenter’s Local #311 in 1951 and though he 'retired' in 1986 Jessy was proud of maintaining his union membership until his death. Jessy was also very talented in rebuilding cars. Over the years, he rebuilt hundreds for his family, friends and clients. He was a former member of Friendship Baptist Church. Jessy loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Jessy married Barbara L. Hunt 76 years ago on July 25, 1942 in Tulsa. She survives at the home.
Additional survivors include three daughters, Regina Albritton, Arnold, Missouri, Diana Johnson and husband, Thomas, Rolla, Frieda Adams, Rolla; grandchildren, Pamela Albritton, Scott E. Albritton, Katherine Johnson, Bradley Johnson and wife, Cherith, Gina Harper and husband, Ian, Kristin Youngbull and husband, J. Tyler; great grandchildren, Kaelee Albritton, Matthew Albritton, Brianna Albritton, Ezekiel Johnson, Eilee Johnson, Ethan Harper, Lucas Harper, Isaac Harper, Elena Harper, Emo'onahe Youngbull, Israel Youngbull, Eli Youngbull, Ta-caaku-wakan Youngbull; and several other extended family members, including 13 nephews and 6 nieces.
In addition to his parents, Jessy was preceded in death by his half brother, Floyd Bishop; brothers, Henry 'Bill' Ford, Robert Ford; and sisters, Christeen Byington, Jaunita Berna, Violet Ford and Lessie Ford.
Services are planned for Thursday at Noon at Parker Mortuary Chapel. Rev. Jeff Martin will officiate. Interment will follow at Osborne Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 11:00 a.m. until service time. Memorial contributions may be made to the Parkinson's Foundation, in care of Parker Mortuary.
