Dave Douglas

(From Clark Funeral Home)

Father, Grandfather, Son, Husband, Friend; each of us are better off because Dave was a part of our lives. This man with amazing talents, unexpectedly left this earth three days after his 62nd birthday.

Dave’s contagious laughter, smile, witty sense of humor, love and ear for great musicians, his true God given gift, will be sorely missed.

Beginning –Dave grew up in Neosho MO, the son of Garland DeWayne Douglas and Mary Evelyn Douglas. He was a talented baseball player and all-around good athlete and loved the Ozark Mountains, canoeing, fishing and listening to and discovering great music.

After graduation, Dave moved to CO where he met and married Cheryl Loomis. That is where their family started. Natalie Jean Douglas was born 4 days before their first anniversary.

After 3 years of living in CO, they moved to AR where Dave had his own tile setting business. After Hunter Garland Douglas was born, a new career was in store and Dave started working for Wal-Mart. Dave was a pioneer in the growth of Wal-Mart.

Consequently, the entire Douglas clan got to experience and learn many amazing things, traveling State to State – (AR, NC, FL, MO, TX) on that 12 + year Wal-Mart Journey. Dave loved NASCAR, golfing, and enjoyed drinking beer, he could find humor in everything. He had a passion for Native Americans and Indian Culture. Sunday morning services in the Douglas household always entailed cooking a big breakfast and listening – very loudly – to The Band’s “The Last Waltz."

Dave was an excellent provider and family man. There was always a lot of laughter in the house. He loved to grill, use the smoker and entertain. He was a true friend, assisting anyone and everyone and would give you the shirt off his back.

MidLife – after 22 years of marriage, Dave and Cheryl divorced, Dave continued to reside in Johnson City TX. He was surrounded by the sounds he loved. Texas Hill Country music, Austin City Limits, Willie Nelson’ Spicewood, and Poodie’s Bar and Grill to name a few.

Dave connected with one of his best friends from High School, Kim Fairchild. Friends regenerated. For Dave’s 60th birthday they went to see his beloved Ozark Mountain Daredevils in Branson MO with some of their High School friends. Their love rekindled. Kim was with Dave, his companion, confidant, and love until the end. His greatest joy was watching his 4 grandkids, Quentin, Jett, Monroe and Royal Douglas grow and thrive, he couldn’t wait to take them fishing.

Next Journey begins- Dave you were taken way too soon. We all know though, you are flying high, with John Prine, getting that cocktail and smoking a cigarette 9 miles long, or listening to Levon Helm, and a lot of Guy Clark, with Poodie right there listening with ya…So, Dave Douglas get it ready for the rest of us…Until your family and friends meet up with you again, keep the music playing!

Memorial visitation will be Tuesday, November 10, 2020 from noon to 2pm at Clark Funeral Home, Neosho, MO. Dave’s cremains will be interred with his parents at IOOF Neosho, MO.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the David Douglas Memorial fund c/o Clark Funeral Home, PO Box 66; Neosho, MO 64850.
