James Meier

James M. Meier, of Granby, MO passed away Friday, October 23, 2020 at the age of 90 years. He was born on November 9, 1929 in Chestnutridge, MO to Emil and Helen Meier. He attended and graduated from Spokane High School.

James married Louise Bilyeu on March 7, 1948. Shortly after marrying, they moved to Wichita, KS, where he worked for the Boeing Aircraft Company. 

In 1957, he moved the family to Neosho, MO where they bought a farm as well as a restaurant in Neosho. At this time, James went to work for Rocketdyne Division of North America. He finished his career at La-Z-Boy Midwest, where he worked as Wood Room Supervisor and later became Assistant Plant Superintendent from 1969 until his retirement in 1993.

He loved the lake. One of his greatest joys was having the whole family together and teaching his grandkids to ski or watching them turn each fishing trip into a tournament.

James is survived: His two daughters, Norma Curry of Springfield, MO and Leta Wilson of Granby, MO; one grandson, Brian Lindsey and wife Amanda of Ozark, MO; and two great-grandchildren, Jack and Kate Lindsey. He is also survived by one brother, Carl Meier of Springfield; one sister, Esther Maples of Highlandville, MO; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise, granddaughter, Jennifer Lindsey, parents, Emil and Helen Meier, one sister Wilma Keltner and one brother Virgil Meier.

James played a vital roll in the building of a new church in Monett, MO. Church and God was what he felt was the most important part of his own life or anyone else’s. Each time as he prayed, he asked God to “Keep us ever faithful and in the center of your will” and he lived each day accordingly. He was currently a member of Silver Moon Full Gospel Church.

Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Tuesday, October 27, in Adams Funeral Home, Nixa, with Allen Maples officiating. Burial will follow in Schupbach Cemetery, Chestnutridge. Visitation will be 12:30 on Tuesday until service time. The City of Nixa requires a face mask for any gathering.
