Loretta Baker

Ina “Loretta” Baker, 97, of Jay, Oklahoma, passed away on Thursday, October 15, 2020 at her home with her loving family by her side.

She was born on October 11, 1923 in Gravette, Arkansas to the late, James Wilson and Minnie Adeline (Riggs) Boan. 

Loretta married Charles “Wayne” Baker on October 3, 1941 in Siloam Springs, Arkansas and to this union four children were born. Her formative years were spent in Southwest City, Missouri, graduating High School in Southwest City. Loretta traveled extensively with her husband, Wayne when he worked for Hyman-Michaels Company, dismantling railroads. 








Loretta was a homemaker, accounting for Hyman-Michaels Company and gathered eggs in their poultry business. Her favorite thing to do was rocking babies and spending time with her family. Loretta was an active member in the First Baptist Church in Southwest City. She also worked on the Election Board and was a member of the Eastern Star.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 64 years, Wayne Baker on June 27, 2006; two great grandchildren, Mason Don Gibe and Jayce Lynn Gibe; two brothers Ruben Boan and Lloyd Boan; two sisters, Ethel Mae Sterner and Loria Campbell.

Loretta is survived by one son, Charles Wayne Baker, Jr. and wife, Marilyn, of Rogers, Arkansas; three daughters, Mary Jane Ott and husband, George, of Joplin, Missouri, Cheryl Ann Wetzel and husband, David, of Jay, Oklahoma, and Catherine Crawford and husband, Gary, of Jay, Oklahoma; 13 grandchildren; 41 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other family, friends and neighbors who will dearly miss Loretta.

Graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 20, 2020 at the Southwest City Cemetery in Southwest City, Missouri. Pastor Rob Grimm and Pastor Ricky Williams will officiate.
