Sarah Bonitt

Sarah Bonitt passed away on October 17, 2020 at the age of 102. She was born February 11, 1918 in Neosho, Missouri to Lucy and Walker McIntire. She graduated from Diamond High School in 1935 and moved to Joplin in 1940 to attend Joplin Business College. Sarah married Edward J. Bonitt on January 10, 1948.

She was predeceased by her husband Edward Bonitt, sisters Bobbie Richardson and Dorcas McIntire, and infant daughter Christina Bonitt. 

She is survived by her three sons, Jay (Sharon) and Murray (Meg) of Alexandria, VA, and Jeff (Joplin); five grandchildren (Mike, Kate, Matt, Meredith and Daniel); and three great-grandchildren (Will, Tommy and James).








From 1957 to 1960 she worked in the Joplin District Office of Rep. Charles H. Brown (D-MO-7). She retired as Office Manager at WorkWear (Miller Manufacturing Company) in 1983. Sarah was a volunteer at St. Mary's Catholic Church Rectory Office upon her retirement from WorkWear, later joining its employee staff. She was a charter and founding member of the Joplin Harry S. Truman Women's Democratic Club.

Her family would like to thank the staff at Silver Creek Assisted Living for their care, friendship and support for the past 2-1/2 years; and to Avalon Hospice for their compassionate assistance during Sarah's final days.

Because of Covid-19 health considerations, a memorial service will be scheduled at a later date. Contributions in her memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
